How the RNC squashed its only conservative-media debate
POLITICO ^ | January 20, 2016 | Hadas Gold and Shane Goldmacher

The Washington Times and Liberty University were planning for a year. And then the Republican Party pulled the plug.

More than a year ago, huddled in secret, the Republican National Committee began negotiations with conservative news organizations to wrest at least one presidential primary debate from the grip of the mainstream media. It was to be an event by and for the GOP's base, free of the constraints of a big network, to ensure candidates a forum to speak about conservative issues in a conservative frame for conservative voters.

That debate would have happened this week at Liberty University with The Washington Times in the lead. Instead, the GOP's at times unwelcome front-runner Donald Trump walked onto the stage originally reserved for the forum and bungled Bible quotes in front of an evangelical audience.

The debate would have been a first on several counts. There would have been no network controlling the debate; the signal would have been an open feed, meaning any one could broadcast the debate or live stream it on their site. Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Bloomberg Politics’ Mark Halperin were approached about moderating. And questions would have been culled from viewers of local news outlets around the country, students at Liberty University and soldiers stationed overseas.

“Being able to empower soldiers deployed overseas to ask questions, to get students in the audience at a school, to get real people in the real world ...that was the fundamental opportunity and I think that’s what got lost in the shuffle,” said Solomon, who left the Times in December to become chief creative officer for digital news site Circa.

But by the end of November, all of the planning came to a screeching halt.

Just another spoiled milk article. They didn’t get their way and now upset and bashing away. Nothing interesting except that two things happened.

They found out logistics would be too difficult without a TV camera....dah.

They already had Carson, Cruz and then Trump so it would not have been interesting to have them in the debate......well why did you invite them.

They tried.....didn’t work out.....time to move on.

After that, I was told the RNCs tolerance for risk taking was lower, even though they loved the idea of a grassroots debate, Solomon said.

Cant have the grassroots, the base that Jeb! said he would win the nomination without, have any hand in hosting anything. Might make them think they are really part of the process.

Maybe Hannity and the other guy should have a roundtable with the three or four top guys in the race as a regular show. Live stream it. I bet they would get more viewers than the measly 10 million that the last DNC debate got.

Just another media lie.

Here is a good history of such lies:

I am amazed at the number of media lies about Trump and what he says. This one is choice: he said “two Corinthians” instead of “second Corinthians” and that is bungling a bible quote. If so, then I bungle them weekly and have for 50 years. “Turn in your bibles to 2 Corinthians...2 John...2 Chronicles...”

Find anything like the number of anti-Cruz articles, anti-Rubio, anti-Bush....whoever...and I’ll buy you dinner.

Saw one the other day that Trump donated to McConnell AGAINST Bevin when they ran against one another in their senate primary.

Turns out that Trump’s donation was MONTHS before Bevin even entered the race.

WHERE does everyone else’s money come from....the big money that will fund a national campaign? Where will it come from?

I’m finding fewer reasons to remain a Republican these days. The GOP hates people like me and that’s becoming abundantly clear.

“...After that, I was told the RNC’s tolerance for risk taking was lower, even though they loved the idea of a grassroots debate...”

What “Risk”? Put the candidates on a stage, present each with the same exact question (that they did not receive beforehand) and time period to answer and then GET OUT OF THE WAY.

The RNC makes about as much sense as a football bat, flip-flop cleats, or demoncrats.

Do we really think that the RNC wanted a conservative debate?
Nothing is preventing conservative groups from holding a candidate forum or debate. If Donald Trump wants to hide, so be it.
