Donald Trump dodges on Sarah Palin VP question
CNN ^ | Wed January 20, 2016 | David Wright

Posted on 01/20/2016 10:37:47 AM PST by presidio9

Donald Trump said he doesn't think Sarah Palin would be interested in becoming his running mate and trying for a second time to become vice president.

"I don't think she'd want to do it," Trump said, although he added that he isn't thinking that far ahead.

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show on Wednesday morning after Palin's high-profile endorsement of his White House bid, Trump deflected repeated questions about the 2008 vice presidential candidate as a potential 2016 running mate.

Palin has not raised the matter with the GOP frontrunner.

"As far as Sarah is concerned, never asked me about that, never asked me about anything else, just wanted to support," Trump said.

"You know, I really don't get into it right now. That question is always asked to me, who do you have in mind, and I don't even think about VP right now," he said. "I just want to win. I've always been a closer."

But Trump said Palin could certainly be a part of his administration.

"Certainly there would be a role somewhere in the administration, if she wanted -- and I'm not sure that she does want that -- but there would certainly be a role."

Palin told CNN's Jake Tapper last September she might be interested in becoming energy secretary.

This article could be written about anybody being considered for VP. I don’t think we are going to know Trump’s choice until the summer. I think we will be very surprised. Just a gut feeling based on how unconventional this campaign season has been so far. Certainly one for the ages.

Nothing against Sarah, but I’m in favor of the guy who has fracked the most oil out of the ground being the energy secretary. Her background is media and small business. I’d like to see her double down on that. Lead with your strengths.

She’s a plus for the primaries and a negative for November.
I suspect Trump realizes this.

This is worrisome, is Sarah’s health OK?

If I had to guess right now, I would say that Trump is definitely leaning towards Rubio. It's one of the reasons why Trump's attacks on Rubio have been somewhat platitudinous (for Trump): When he talks about Rubio at all, he tends to focus on his age and inexperience. Meanwhile, from day one the opponent that he has been hardest on is Bush -Rubio's biggest direct challenger.

This is not an endorsement of Rubio, mind you, but I do accept the general consensus that Marko sure does check a lot of missing boxes for a guy like Trump.

Palin is 51 years old, retired, and living a very active lifestyle. I’m sure she’s fine.

Don’t forget, last time I checked Todd works the north slope on the oil rigs, may be part of the energy secretary angle.

Palin only wants an adoring audience.

Her background is in media and she would probably like to own NBC....but that ain't going to happen.

I think it was her trans-Alaska pipeline deal that got her into the energy business. But she wasn’t involved in the business. She was involved in the government supporting the construction. And she did well. This is certainly in support of her.

But, I think it’s time we had a wildcatter in the energy secretary position. Sort of like having a businessman in the presidential chair.

It suggests Sarah would be great to have in charge of the FCC.

I’m no fan of Rubio but the man can sell snow to Eskimos. I doubt Trump would pick him with his gang of 8 baggage. Goes against everything Trump is campaigning about. I expect Rubio is the next Governor of Florida, unfortunately.

I do not remember specifics. But question of VP pick for 2016 election came up in FR awhile back. The problem is that announcing VP choice too early violates federal election laws.

Corrections welcome.

I think that Palin will campaign for him only during the primaries, and probably only in certain states. Once Trump has enough delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot, she’ll stop campaigning. We won’t see her at all beyond June, or even earlier, depending on when Trump wraps up enough delegates.
