Haiti postpones Sunday's presidential election as violence erupts

Pierre Louis Opont, president of Haiti's electoral council, said the runoff vote was being pushed back for security reasons. But he did not say when the election, already postponed twice before, would be rescheduled.

The announcement led to jubilation from demonstrators marching to oppose the election. They danced on the streets of the capital Port-au-Prince, but the mood quickly darkened. Gunshots were fired as protesters clashed with police.

The postponement is nevertheless expected to ease unrest after days of protests in the deeply impoverished country of about 10 million people, at pains to rebuild from a devastating earthquake six years ago and to emerge from decades of political dysfunction.

Several western nations, fearing a new era of instability in the Caribbean nation, have been assisting Haiti in its election preparations. The U.S. government alone has chipped in $30 million.

But opposition candidate Jude Celestin said last week he would not take part in the election, alleging a first round vote in October was rigged to favor the ruling party candidate.

"The fact that the electoral council was forced to give up the electoral farce is a victory for the Haitian people," said Jean-Charles Moise, another opposition candidate who said fraud led to his first-round defeat.

Hamstrung with weak institutions, Haiti has struggled to build a stable democracy since the overthrow of the 1957-1986 dictatorship of the Duvalier family and ensuing military coups and election fraud.

I think I see the problem.

One wonders what we actually get for our $30M investment in that lawless, treeless, and barren dump of a country?

IDK.

But any opinion I have about it will be deemed “racist”, and possibly involve prison time.

Unfortuntely I share your concerns. It sure as hell isn’t the real estate, just look at the other end of the island. And by extension, look at our major cities where similar demographics exist. Democrat-run large US cities are almost universally in trouble, but when you winnow that list to RAT-run cities that are run by AA’s the picture gets even worse. Just look at Detroit if you have any doubts. Coleman Young was mayor there for 20+ years and left that once beautiful city in complete ruins. I wished it were a different story, but it’s all there for everyone to see. there simply isn’t going to be the necessary funds to continue to support these cities, so like Haiti, I don’t see how they get better unless the people who live there figure out how to start saving themselves.

The Dominican Republic's population is 73% of racially mixed origin, 16% White, and 11% Black.(wiki)

The gene pool of Haiti is about 95.5% Sub-Saharan African, 4.3% European, with the rest showing less than 0.9% traces of East Asian/Native American genes;[217] according to a 2010 autosomal genealogical DNA testing.(wiki). The "4.3% European" doesn't mean there are many white people, it means that some Haitians are part-white (and make up the aristocracy)

Haiti is an African country in the Caribbean. When they rebelled against Spain, the Haitians massacred the entire white population. Men, women, and children.

They have been damned ever since.

I’ve said this before: Disperse the po’ folk to all the french speaking nations out there, including the Congo, Surinam, France. We can do our part by moving 50k of them each to New Orleans and Dee-twah where the French history can be reborn. The Africa-bound can be compensated for less than $1k/yr. President Trump can then turn the place into an American protectorate, dumping ALL illegal immigrants in our prisons. After 50 years give the whole island to it’s rightful owners, the Dominican Republic. An idea for dealmaker Trump.

“They have been damned ever since.”

Sure looks like it, but maybe it’s simply the fact that they are a singularly stupid bunch with abnormally low IQ’s due to inbreeding.

It wouldn’t matter as much, if they had intelligent people able to run things better. Which is what I meant.

Look at Zimbabwe, once the breadbasket of Africa (as Rhodesia) now entering its 36th year of black majority rule.

“Look at Zimbabwe, once the breadbasket of Africa (as Rhodesia) now entering its 36th year of black majority rule.”

Yes, white colonists made these places flourish, but they didn’t do much for integrating the blacks into the societies they created. So the Blacks finally took over because of their superior numbers, but it was all downhill after that because while the Blacks figured out how to take over (at the point of a gun) they really didn’t have the mental wherewithall to run their newly-formed countries. Basically they’re still a bunch of “tribes” that continue to battle each other using modern-day weaponry. And now that they have killed-off/run-off the whites, they have no one who knows how to operate a successful economy.
