Palin and the GOP's Uncertain Trumpeters

Sarah Palin’s public performances continue to be distinctive. Her endorsement of Donald Trump was less speech than podium jazz scat, with some early Elvis thrown in. “Trump’s candidacy, it has exposed not just that tragic, the ramifications of that betrayal of a transformation of our country, but too, he has exposed the complicity on both sides of the aisle that has enabled it, okay?” Essentially: Bee-bop-a-lula he’s my baby. She was scattered, rambly; at moments she foraged through her notes in a way that was almost endearing, looking for lines that would connect and explode. But it’s not as interesting as it used to be because it’s not new.

Nothing surprising here. We all know Peggy Noonan despises Sarah Palin, and Sarah still hasn't forgiven Peggy for the insulting remarks she made in 2008 of her and still does. I'm not really sure who Peggy is supporting this year. Certainly not Donald Trump.

In short, Peggy Noonan, represents, like George Will, Thomas Sowell and some others, a voice that is shrill and hollow. I learn nothing from her articles anymore, that have come to be a thinly cloaked contempt for anyone not from Washington. The sub-textual hatred for Sarah is pretty evident in the first two paragraphs here.

Still, I thought I'd post it anyway.

Say what you want about Noonan and Will.

But Thomas Sowell’s conservative voice is ANYTHING but shrill or hollow.

The whole article just oozes condescension and snobbery.

Cruz’s media allies are seriously the biggest bunch of sanctimonious p*icks.

Is this the type of “conservatism” that Cruz represents? The type they think will win in the Fall?

It seems like he is becoming little more than a small puppet with all of their hands swinging him around just trying to beat people at this point.

I was told by the Republican elites that in order to win, we need to get more Hispanic voters. More black voters. More independents and moderates.

So Trump is doing that, he’s filling up arenas to maximum capacity with these types of potential voters.

Now the same crowd that has backed dozens of Congressional Republicans who are more concerned with cutting deals with the very same people destroying this country, and have backed the same Republican presidential candidates who have lost 5 of the last 6 popular votes, are suddenly concerned with conservative purity.

NOW we need to elect a conservative. The entire situation is absurd.

I have been very disappointed in Sowell’s last few attack pieces. His usual clear thinking is off key and muddled.

I wonder who or whom will be taken to the glue factory first, The Colossus, Hillary Clinton, or the Scribe, Peg Noonan?

An intriguing race to the bottom!

Did the GOP establishment make any mistakes the past 15 years? If so, how can the damage be repaired? Was the Republican elite, like the Democratic one, essentially uninterested in the eroding power and position of the American working class? Were GOP leaders insensitive, cynical and selfish regarding public disapproval of and anxieties about illegal immigration?

Yes. No. Yes. Yes.

There have been no endorsements of DT of “stature”. You guys forget that DT carries about 70% of the GOP vote and is second only to Jeb in voters who say they would never vote for DT.
You also seem to think Palin is all that. She has never been all that except to a portion of the right. Cruz supporters are not moved. You say sour grapes. I say yeah, we thought she was based on principles. Donnie has none. Is she just trying to pump herself up by attaching herself to DT? If so she has only impressed those who were DT fans to begin with.

I’m not sure where anyone gets the idea that Palin is going to be going around the country campaigning for Trump. Most endorsers make an appearance or two, and that’s it, and that is probably the case with Palin. I suspect that her primary function was to help Trump over the top in IA, he’s doing just fine on his own everywhere else at this time.

"Peggy, you're nothing to me now. You're not a sister, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you on television, or read what you write. I don't want you near any conservative conferences. When you see my friends, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?"

With apologies to Michael Corleone.

Ms. Noonan plagiarizing Camille Paglia, I see. Ms. Paglia uses “jazz scat” to characterize Sarah's speech - but in a good way.

I’d take Sarah Palin over Glen Beck on her worst day. It’s sad to see her turned on by so called conservatives over an ineligible Canadian candidate.

Since when is Peggy Noonan a Cruz ally?

I agree, Sowell is great. Peggy & Will and others are horrible. Mr. Sowell can vote for whoever he wants - I’m quite sure it won’t be Hillary or Bernie or Trump (unfortunately).

Go, Trump, go!
