CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. â As families of the lost Challenger astronauts gather with NASA to mark the space shuttle accident's 30th anniversary, there's a new voice to address the crowd.
June Scobee Rodgers -- widow of Challenger commander Dick Scobee and longtime spokeswoman for the group -- is passing the torch to daughter Kathie Scobee Fulgham.

The event will honor the Columbia Seven as well, along with the three Apollo 1 astronauts killed during a launch pad test on Jan. 27, 1967. NASA also plans observances at Arlington National cemetery, Johnson Space Center in Houston and elsewhere.

I remember where I was when I first got the news about this.
So do I.....I wrote about it on another thread
This happened not far from where I live
As do I
And rushing outside to see it happening overhead
I remember one female reporter asked President Reagan at his news conference after the event, “Did you know it was going to blow up”?
Think about that question. Her hatred of Reagan and conservatives was so great that she basically accused him of having it blown up.
Yes, it was a foolish question, but it was prompted by the concern many people had about the safety of the O-rings on the SRB and the heat shield tiles on the Orbiter. I was especially upset when the news reported the cause being the O-ring. That was one of the items all the way back around 1979-1980 as being an area of concern for the safety of the Space Shuttle. I worried about it for years and had finally begun to not worry so much about it when the Challenger was destroyed and renewed the worries al over again.

It is sad that I had to do a search for this on FR and that it only has 6 replies...I guess people are too busy throwing feces at each other.
Visited the memorial to the Challenger crew in Arlington National Cemetery a few years ago......
