Zika Virus Is Here in New York
NYPost ^ | January 28, 2016

A fifth person from New York was confirmed to have contracted the Zika virus while traveling south of the border — and experts warned Wednesday that the disease could spike here and across the United States as mosquito season arrives this spring.

Health officials, citing federal privacy laws, released scant information about the New York cases, which include two from the Big Apple and one each from Nassau, Orange and Monroe counties.

Agreed! This has me very happy that we’re well away from all that urban liberal nonsense.

According to Wikipedia, it doesn’t seem to be a seriously fatal thing, So that’s good... for now.

But damn if I’m not going to make sure there wont be any standing water in my yard, and I’m investing big in Deep Woods Off this spring.

Cruise ships thru the Caribbean is another potential exposure.

Thankfully, it seems that other than its effects on pregnancy, it causes a fever and a rash that goes away in a few days.

Bring back DDT. This is the same mosquito that spread yellow fever and a host of other diseases in the US and throughout the world...until we nearly eradicated it here after the discoveries of a Cuban doctor, confirmed by Dr. Walter Reed (who gave the Cuban credit) based on his research in the building of the Panama Canal.

There is no insecticide as effective against mosquitoes and as harmless to humans as DDT. But thanks to the unhappy Rachel Carson, the first of the liberal Eco-panic folks, its use is prohibited.

Incidentally, the Zika virus (which has been indentified since the 1940s) seems to be not very serious to the victim and in fact the connection with microcephaly among children of Zika victims is not proven and just “suspected.” So I’d say this panic is being set off intentionally by the UN, but to what end? I think it’s ZPG (Zero Population Growth), personally, because these health agencies are now telling countries to order women not to have children for two years....even though the cause and effect is not proven. Viruses often have an impact on the development of the fetus during pregnancy, and in fact even the common cold causes birth defects if the developing embryo or fetus is exposed to it at certain phases in its development.

But if countries are “ordering” this, it probably means that they can force abortions, so look for the hand of Planned Parenthood in this too.

Don’t panic. Instead ask yourself why we’re not doing the sensible thing, mosquito eradication with DDT.

I read that Brazil officials will try to prevent infection in Rio during the Olympics. The athletes, media and spectators will help spread it world-wide?
“Plans were announced by the authorities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to try to prevent the spread of the Zika virus during the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in that city.” http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-35394297

That’s right. Zika virus infection is often not even noticed in adults, it is harmless to adults.

But there is a strong indication it can cause microcephaly if pregnant women are infected.

The virus passes the placental barrier. It has been found in amniotic fluid and bodies of micro-encephalic babies.

There are cases where mothers who have been infected have had perfectly healthy babies.

Great post!

My immediate thought when I heard that they were telling women not to have children for two years was that the eugenicists were using this as a ploy to push their agenda.

Good points. The cases of microcephaly may have nothing to do with Zika virus.

[[I’m investing big in Deep Woods Off this spring.]]

Hope you got a good bank account- buy some mosquito donuts to throw in any standing water like small pools, ponds etc- they do help a bit- but we can’t prevent it totally- outdoorsmen like myself are really vulnerable, and nothing we do can stop it or west nile, or tick bourne diseases totally- We take our lives in our hands these days just venturing outside- I’m at more risk as I do photography and the places I photograph are in swamplands totally infested with the buggers

There are machines that create carbon dioxide that attract and kill the mosquitos- but they are expensive

It’s getting to the point where I gotta say “I’m venturing outside, here’s my last will and testament”
