Hamas was unhappy on Sunday with remarks by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who a day earlier expressed concern by Hamasâs announcement that it intends to continue developing its terror infrastructure in Gaza in order to continue attacking Israeli civilians.
In a statement posted on its website, the group said it âslammedâ Banâs remarks regarding Hamasâs terror tunnels.
âThe tunnels are defensive,â Hamas claimed, noting that âthey were built for the purpose of fending the Gaza Strip against invasion by the Israeli forces.â
âThose remarks are prejudiced in favor of the Israeli occupation,â blasted the terrorist movement.
Banâs statement of concern came a day after deputy Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh confirmed the group is rebuilding its terrorist tunnel infrastructure.
Haniyeh made the comments as part of his weekly sermon at the end of Friday prayers in Gaza and ahead of a funeral for seven Hamas terrorists who were killed when a tunnel collapsed in northern Gaza.
"There are those who think that the calm is a time of rest," Haniyeh said. "But this is a continuation of the struggle. Al-Aqsa Martyrsâ Brigades are working and preparing for Palestine. Fighters are digging twice as much as the number of tunnels dug in Vietnam."
Ban actually came under fire from Israel last week when he appeared to express sympathy for Palestinian Arab terrorists, saying the recent terrorist attacks were a result of "Palestinian frustration".
