Fifty years ago, I grew up in a mostly Greek and Syrian community in Boston. There were no Muslims, only various Christians of Maronite, Melkite, Catholic, and Orthodox Faiths. Yet, anti-Israel sentiment was very strong, and the Pastor of one orthodox church used to appear on the local news regularly denouncing Israel.

There were also regular bomb-scares and actual explosive devices planted around town, and some police were injured or even killed doing bomb-disposal.

It was always puzzling and troubling to me that these things occurred in an affluent, White, supposedly Christian community, but this article does help explain a lot.
