Quite frankly, I think everyone has it wrong. People are piling on Rubio for repeating the bit about Obama knowing exactly what he's doing. He's 100% correct.

Trump repeats the same stuff over and over and over. Is anyone saying Trump is done for repeating the same stuff over and over? No.

On top of that, I think Rubio came out ahead on the back and forth with Christie. Christie repeats over and over that he's a governor, he's accountable. How many times did Christie say that tonight? How many times does he say that every day?

Anyone who believes Rubio imploded tonight is sadly mistaken.

You raise an interesting point, although ultimately, I disagree with it. I think Rubio came off looking really bad, and if the comments on this thread are any indication, I think the vast majority of viewers agree. The audience also seemed to agree based on their applause, even though most of them were probably there to support the 3 GOPe candidates equally (i.e. Jeb, Rubio, and Christie).

Still, it’s a fair point that Trump often repeats himself and doesn’t usually get flack for it. I think the difference with Rubio is that it’s a practiced speech, and with Trump, he’s responding spontaneously, even when he repeats himself. It’s the very eloquence of Rubio’s speeches that make them look so phony when the mask slips and you realize that it was just a rehearsed speech that might not have even been written by him. I think it’s all about authenticity. Rubio has shown how comfortable and talented he is at sounding sincere about things he doesn’t believe, and this example just so blatantly reminds people how slick he can be.

Trump may come across as a blowhard to some people when he repeats a story about disclosing his financials, etc., but it doesn’t come across as phony. Maybe a bit of a braggadocio, but not phony. Just my take.

Rubio definitely didn’t have a bad enough performance to lose any supporters.
But I think he didn’t gain any.
I’d like him if it wasn’t for the donors he has.
