Bernie Sanders's huge New Hampshire win exposes a fractured Democratic Party
Washington Post ^ | February 9, 2016 | Philip Bump

Posted on 02/09/2016 8:25:16 PM PST by Zakeet

The results in New Hampshire show a Democratic Party in the state that is deeply ruptured demographically and ideologically -- in a way that happened to very much favor Bernie Sanders on Tuesday night.

[Snip]

Sanders won two out of every three men, and notably slightly more women than Clinton, according to the most recent exit polls. Sanders won young voters -- those under 30 -- by about 70 percentage points. He won those aged 45 to 64 with a slight majority. He won two-thirds of non-college graduates and a little over half of those with degrees. Sanders won six in 10 voters with household incomes of less than $100,000, and a bare majority of those earning $100,000 or more.

[Snip]

Buried in the responses, though, is a strain of animosity. More than a third of voters said they would not be satisfied if Clinton won the nomination, while 1-in-5 said the same of Sanders. Among those who said that the most important trait was honesty, Sanders won 9 in 10 votes. Among those looking for experience, Clinton won by a similar margin. Clinton backers think Sanders is too liberal; his supporters think she's not liberal enough.

I’m not so sure about that. The pundits that told us Hillary’s trustworthy numbers didn’t matter are the same people telling us Hillary’s performance will turn around in the south.

I think I saw that 42% of the NH democrat primary electorate told exit pollsters that honesty and trustworthiness were their top priorities in selecting a candidate (The top voter concern for democrats in NH!). Of those voters, Bernie got 92%. He was masterful at labeling Hillary a liar when it comes to her denying her ties to Wall Street. That plus the Benghazi cover up and email fiasco have seriously damaged Hillary even among her own party faithful. We may very well have just witnessed the mortal wounding of Hillary. If so, Iowa could end up being her high water mark.

Also almost no attention has been given to the world recession and the huge decline in the stock market. It would appear that The US is about to enter an economic crisis much worse than that which swept Obama into power in 2008.

I'm with you re: the coming crisis. Due to its magnitude, no establishment candidate from either party will be able to survive it.

Did you see her concession speech tonight? It was like listening to fingernails on a chalk board. Though in fairness I thought the same thing about Sara Palin’s Trump endorsement speech in Iowa. Neither did either candidate any favors.

After 8 years of hearing Obama called a communist, they decided to back a real one!

Remember the Obama campaign offices in 2008, with Che Guevara posters on the walls? The Dems knew they had a "real Commie" in Obama back then.

H has that mother-in-law-from-Hell voice. Nothing she can do about it. She has ZERO chance in the general, and there a decent chance she won't even beat an openly socialist candidate for the nomination.

They knew. Then the Mao fan he appointed. All commies.

That’s why Biillary can’t attack Sanders on that point. That’s their party now!

Hillary was suppose to run uncontested and they didn’t consider Sander’s a threat!

Sander's is not going to crash and burn at all.

He is a real threat to Hillary, who is running a terrible campaign!

The Obama campaign was based on 'hope and change', Sander's is giving them the same.

Hillary has nothing to offer.

Trump probably won the most Democrat votes

Sanders was 52-48 tonight with minority voters. He’s meeting with Rev. Al tomorrow.

The CNN focus group had a black man saying he was backing Sanders after this.

Hillary might implode and no telling what will happen.

By all political wisdom, Sanders will die in the south a quick death.

But.... this year? Who knows.

Trump is validating Sanders as well. “Well if they can back Trump.... why not Sanders?”

I was thinking the same thing about the Clintons. With the oncoming FBI revelations, the Clintons will be personna non grata overnight. How can that mess be resolved and not sink the Obama administration?

The Dem Party isn’t fractured, they all want the same thing, it’s Hillary who is fractured. Her personality, lack of character and two FBI investigations are pulling the Clinton legacy apart.

Bernie got 15, Hillary got 9, but then there are the 8 superdelegates like elected officials who could all end up supporting Hillary and nullifying Bernie’s popular vote win.

The final delelgate count from NH could be Hillary 17 Bernie 15 at the convention.

Been saying that for months; words mean things and the language is being changed for a reason.
Used to be just REPUBLICAN PARTY or DEMOCRAT PARTY.
Now the Transi/Prog/Lib/Socialist/Commie Democrat Party has all of a sudden become the DEMOCRATIC PARTY?
I DON’T THINK SO.

That’s “DEMOCRAT” PARTY (no “ic”).
Don’t buy into their manipulation of the language.

Excellent point. They kept saying it was a "smear" to call Obama a marxist and now they back a candidate who gloats about being one.

Reminds me of how the left screamed bloody murder about the GOP "lying" about John Kerry being pro-gay marriage, only to have orgasms 8 years later when Obama openly admitted to being pro-gay marriage.

So if today it's a "smear" for the GOP to accuse the RATs of wanting to confiscate guns, we can probably expect them to have a parade celebrating a fascist-run national gun removal program in 8 years.
