Because Ted is only ahead in those polls because the media wants Ted vs. Hillary and Trump is low at the moment because of a fractious primary and Ted supporters being pissed that Trump is winning and won’t vote for him at the moment. I see it on here everday. The Cruz supporters whining that Trump is terrible and not a Godly man. Haven’t met one Trump supporter that would not vote Cruz in general. Blame the Cruz supporters for any current low head to head polling for Trump. 9 months is a long time. It will change and Trump will dissect Hillary or Bernie like he has everyone else.

Cruz is losing to Trump by 20 points in the a primary but would beat Hillary in the general? LMAO. That must be some good stuff you are drinking. TPA Teddy would be lucky to win 10 states in the general and deep down you know that.
Because it makes no sense that Cruz would do better than Trump in the general. He’s touted as the most conservative, most Christian - which should have him screaming ahead with Republicans- which he is not. So him doing better amongst independents and crossovers makes no sense at all. Most politicians move to the middle to appeal to those groups. Also Trump’s support comes from all swaths of Republican voters - setting him up well for the general. Cruz’s appeal is limited to ultra-conservative (which I am but support Trump) and evangelical.
Thirdly, Trump hasn’t gone after Clinton or Bernie yet. Polls showed Carter winning too.

It’s about as useful as saying Ted Cruz is the only candidate who can beat Big Bird in November.
These matchups are a misleading way for the Establishment to foist their candidates on you. It plants the seed in your head that your candidate is doomed, and their candidate is the only hope.
The only hypothetical matchup that matters is the personal sniff test each individual gives to a candidate before deciding to support someone. “Is this person more generally appealing to me than [whoever]?”
Going with your own best instincts on that question is infinitely better than caring about PAC, MSM, and internal “hypothetical polls”. They are BS. The R vs. D polling doesn’t matter until the candidates on each side are written in stone.

Years ago there was a thread on how to manipulate a poll to make your opponent look bad or to get the opponent you want. It was very informative. Obviously many peoples are aware that the negatives can be manipulated

Rubio does better than either of them vs Clinton, he actually wins. Trump loses, Cruz ties (within MoE). Rubio beats Sanders, the other two lose.

We were told over and over that only Bush could beat Carter. Reagan had NO chance according to the polls. To vote for Reagan in the primary was to vote for Carter.
