Disarmists use the bandwagon fallacy, (argumentum ad populum) to promote citizen disarmament. In essence, the non-argument makes the claim; everyone else disarms their population - so we should do the same. This is a logical fallacy.

.. it is clear that from 1500 on, the major developments in gun technology came from Europe.
Europeans underwent the black death shortly before the introduction of the gun. The loss of up to a third of the population made the remainder much more valuable. The development of the gun, the Reformation, the Renaissance, much wider availability of literacy and printed material, all interconnected and interrelated, followed. The technological advances among competitive states, spurred by numerous wars, including wars fought to roll back Muslim invasions, led to the abilities of the Europeans to navigate around the world, dominate other cultures, and to create vast empires.
The first reason for gun control around the world is war, conquest, and empire. The masters of the European Empires did not want their subjects armed, for fear of revolt. They had a clear technological superiority of arms, and they desired to keep it. The United States, as a set of colonies, was already armed. They refused to disarm, revolted, and escaped the fate of other parts of the British Empire.
Japan resisted colonization. It imposed strict gun control to protect its elites from its people, actively suppressing gun technology.
India had strict gun control imposed by the British Empire, and the local ruling elites. When India became independent, the Indian government kept gun control and strengthened it.
Africa had gun control imposed by various European empires, British, French, German, Italian.

one of the reasons illegals are being welcomed with open arms is to drive up the crime stats. The 61 people who own half the world’s wealth are scared of our guns.
Do you see a solution to this problem? It’s not a short-term issue of Obama, Hillary, and Bernie being anti-gun while Trump and Cruz say they are pro-gun. It’s a much longer term problem. Restrictions on our natural right to defend ourselves are rarely rolled back in states, nationally, or globally, so this is a multi-generation problem.
The only solution I see has two prongs: fight the immediate political battles with all we have, and teach the net generation. It is not enough merely to keep shooting and to teach our own children to shoot; we’ve been doing that for generations, and we have been losing ground gradually for those generations. It’s not enough to give the other side what they claim to want, when we can work around their restrictions, in the hope that that they will then leave us alone.
1. One of the practical uses of guns (hunting) is nonexistent in an urban environment.
2. Neighbors often live near each other in complete anonymity, so a culture of distrust is often prevalent in an urban area.
3. People who live in an urban environment are already completely dependent upon others -- mainly faceless corporations and government bureaucracy -- for the things they need to live from day to day. It's no big deal for this type of person to willingly surrender more and more of his rights to those corporate and government masters.
Gun restrictions have been a long term problem, but it has not moved only toward more restrictions. The peak of infringements on the Second Amendment was in 1993-94.
We now have the Heller and McDonald rulings, Shall issue in 41 states, may issue in 8 states and Constitutional carry in 7 States with more coming.
The big problem is not Urbanization, but control of the media, universities, and schools by “progressives” who want to stamp out the gun culture.
The long term solution is education and development of a robust gun culture, which we have been doing.
Opposition to more infringements just topped 50% for the first time since records have been kept in the late 50s.
We are winning. Are biggest problem are fraudulent sales pitches claiming one thing, while pushing for another, primarily registration initiatives disquised as “Universal Background Checks”.
We can win if the public is educated, but the media, universities, and schools are against us.
“Are biggest” should be “Our biggest”
No coffee yet!
While some find immigration the biggest issue facing America, I find preserving the Second Amendment to be the hill to die on. I pick all candidates accordingly and that issue is the only one I will politic for publicly on social media. That is where we will educate the younger generations.
In the book THE WASHING OF THE SPEARS, there is an interesting chapter on early gun control in South Africa.
It was imposed by the British on all blacks who had to turn in their bought and paid for trade muskets for registration. The guns were then confiscated.
When the natives demanded them back, they were returned so damaged they were unusable.
Many of the blacks had worked an entire year to earn their trade musket.
Note: Those muskets were made in Birmingham, England and known as a “Brimingham Gaspipe” They were proofed by pouring water down the bores. If there were no leaks, they passed.
Back in 1968, during the anti-gun hysteria over the Bobby Kennedy murder, it was pointed out that MEXICO and Latin America had a greater death rate with knives than guns, so registration of guns would not cause a drop in crime.
The publishers of a magazine said it was because of the cult of “macho” in those countries and the USA had nothing like that.
Well, it’s here.
I agree. Those who believe in our natural right to keep and bear arms have to infiltrate the media, the universities, and the schools. When in their classrooms, we have to be strong in our beliefs, and we have to know intellectually and not just emotionally why the right to self defense is of preeminent importance, because they will try to indoctrinate and mislead us. However, we can easily get the journalism degrees, the doctorates, and the teaching credentials. If we parrot back what the establishment wants to hear, we can get better grades and better credentials than those who genuinely believe without thinking.
Homeschooling is a good thing for educating our own children, but homeschooling just a fraction of our children is not enough for our side to regain ground against the propaganda hitting the rest of the children. Independent and alternative media are nice, but they don't reach the low-information voters who take whatever comes on between Wheel of Fortune and their network TV series.
We have to take the battle to their turf by invading. We can cross those unprotected borders at will and shape the narrative back toward rationality and freedom.
Note: I retired from polling three years ago (not age, just frustration with the world where I used to work). This year, I successfully started a new career on the other side's turf, and I believe I am making a difference in how the next generation will see freedom.
“This year, I successfully started a new career on the other side’s turf, and I believe I am making a difference in how the next generation will see freedom.”
Excellent! May you prosper and have many successes. May your career be long and give you great satisfaction.
May G-d look upon your enterprise with approval and fill your work with joy and satisfaction.
Indeed, Singapour was letting in migrants and the Singapoureans became 2 to 1 to foreign workers. They revolted and it shamed greatly Singapour, so now they have unemployment rates of 2% and are not ruthlessly exploited for the glory of their state managers.
In America it could happen.
Key sentence. I try to point that out in every news article comment on Bloomberg's push for that fraud. As you say, it is an uphill battle.
GUN CONTROL FACTS
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
