Saudi Arabia's foreign minister says he favors equipping Syrian rebels with surface-to-air missiles, arguing it would shift the balance of power.

Saudi Arabia is a key backer of rebels against President Bashar Assad. Foreign Minister Adel el-Jubeir was quoted as telling German weekly Der Spiegel in an interview published Saturday: "We believe that introducing surface-to-air missiles in Syria is going to change the balance of power on the ground."

Minister Al jabber will just cause Russians to up the attacks, and to also go after the transport routes to the rebels.

Awesome idea. Give a bunch of jihadi’s SAMs and hope they don’t use them against you.

I’m guessing Putin will let the Saudis know what he thinks of that.

"because you don't want such weapons to fall into the wrong hands."

Of course, that depends on their definition of "wrong".

So the Russians would just deploy more cruise missiles and countermeasures against the missile sites.
Putin intends to win this, using whatever means necessary.

” .... shift the balance of power ..... “

The Saudis shouldn’t be trying to shift the balance of power. Assad has been in power for a very long time. It’s not their business.

Besides, I don’t recall any of the 911 terrorists being from Syria. 15 of the 19 were from Saudi Arabia. Maybe it’s the Saudis that need regime change?

Yep. Saudis are the root cause of some many of the world’s problems. Unfortunately, they hide behind the USA.

This is all part of the growing Sunni/Shia conflict. The Saudis are the boss Sunni dog. Iran is the boss Shia dog. Syria is just a proxy conflict. Assad is a member of the minority Alawite Shia sect that rules Syria.

That’s exactly what it is. The Saudis want to involve us to take care of their dirty work.

It would in no way hurt my sensibilities to see helicopter gunships and bombers pound Saudi Arabian "palaces" as a response...

The Syrians and the Russians should threaten to give Saudi rebels SAMs in response...
