Excellent piece by a Conservative commentator. I am sick and tired of people saying Cruz is the only conservative in the race. TRUMP is conservative on the issues that are at the forefront today; i.e., immigration, ISIS and the economy. Cruzers can say what they like but they can not deny that Cruz shifted his position on immigration to line up with Trump. He had no intention of rounding up illegals until Trump sounded the trumpet. As far as the economy goes, I don't think Cruz ever ran a business so what does he know?

It would probably have been more convincing if you had not used up most of your 300-word allotment posting promotional material instead of more of the actual article. Not everyone has a subscription to the WP.

Rubin is corner stone of the GOPe.

Trump is not a conservative. Let’s have no illusions about that.

Trump may be a change agent, he may put Hillary in prison, but he is no conservative.

In the first rule of politics, you never make statements that your opponent or enemy will use against you. While Trump was blatantly saying how he will deport all of the illegals, build a wall on the Mexican/US border and halt immigration of muslims and residents from countries that pose a threat to us (positions that I happen to agree with), it is not always best to state those positions publicly. Should Hillary be the democrat nominee and Trump the republican nominee, she will blast the airwaves in California, Texas, Florida and New York (those areas with high immigrant (both legal and illegal) populations and portray Trump as a bigot, a racist, a xenophobe, a nationalist, etc. Cruz knows these topics are hot items and has been more diplomatic in how he discusses them. You will not make inroads with swing voters when you talk about rounding up people. Statements like this will be distorted by the left. It is all perception. And the dems are the master of misleading and deceptive campaigning.

I am not a Cruz supporter, but I think it's ridiculous to call Trump a conservative. Even this issues he might seem conservative on, he lacks any credibility. He only started espousing these ideas when he needed to to run as a Republican. That isn't comparable to others who have changed their beliefs.

Jennifer Rubin thinks anyone not left-of-center is evil-conservative. She is regularly criticized at FR. How come Trump supporters will suddenly like some part of the liberal media when they support Trump?

Of course, if Rubin even mildly criticizes Trump in two weeks, she will be vilified, and they won't acknowledge supporting her today. Consistency like that, including Trump's, doesn't stand for much.

________

Precisely!

What did the Candidates say about immigration in their announcement speeches?

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3396178/posts

It is very instructive to go back and look at what candidates Cruz, Rubio & Trump thought was important and mentioned in their announcement speeches. This was the time to present what issues THEY thought important to them and and the American people.
Trump outlined so many issues while Rubio and Cruz just talked about Cuba and themselves.
Here is their (Trump, Cruz, Rubio) total remarks on IMMIGRATION...later we will do trade, terrorism, 2nd amendment, Obamacare and education.

Trump June 16 , 2015

When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically. The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. (APPLAUSE)

Thank you. It’s true, and these are the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people. It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably — probably — from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast. (APPLAUSE)

I will immediately terminate President Obama’s illegal executive order on immigration, immediately. (APPLAUSE) I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively, I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall. He’s weak on immigration. He’s in favor of Common Core. How the hell can you vote for this guy? You just can’t do it. We have to end — education has to be local.

When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.

Cruz Mar. 23, 2015

Instead of the lawlessness and the president’s unconstitutional executive amnesty, imagine a president that finally, finally, finally secures the borders. (APPLAUSE) And imagine a legal immigration system that welcomes and celebrates those who come to achieve the American dream.

(Cruz’s speech was all about him and your imagination!)

Marco Rubio April 13, 2015 “modernize our immigration laws”

Yep...THAT is it....except for this..

En este pais, ustedes van a poder lograr todas las cosas que nosotros no pudimos. (translated: “In this country, you will achieve all the things we never could.”)

That Time Donald Trump Had A Meeting With DREAMers And Said "You Convinced Me" On Immigration

Two years ago, Trump met with immigration activists who told them their stories and asked for his support on immigration. "You convinced me" Trump said as the meeting ended.

I currently favor Trump over Cruz but would gladly support either. I don’t think it behooves Trump supporters to use Jennifer Rubin to try and make points against Cruz.

Just for the record, Jennifer Rubin is no conservative. I agree however with some of her points. Cruz has changed his position on immigration moving closer to Trump's.

Funding planned Parenthood was wrong under democrats, but under Trump it's now OK?
Ethanol subsidies under democrats was wrong, but under Trump they need to be increased? Now it's OK?
One payer Health Care was wrong under democrats, but under Trump it's now OK?
Stricter gun control laws under democrats was wrong, but under Trump it's just fine?

Is anyone even LISTENING to what he's actually saying on the campaign trail, or are they so armored by the golden boys what he says doesn't matter?

Trump donated heavily to Chuck Schumer, Rahm Emanuel, Terry MacAuliffe, Dick Durbin, and Harry Reid, and he's blaming Cruz for Oboma Care? Really???

Trump says he's going to round up Mexicans and send them packing. Why the change of heart?
"You know, the truth is I have a lot of illegals working for me in Miami," he told them, using the term for undocumented immigrants those in the meeting found offensive. "You know in Miami, my golf course is tended by all these Hispanics - if it wasn't for them my lawn wouldn,t be the lawn it is; it's the best lawn," Pacheco recalled Trump saying.
Trump said he knew the work of undocumented people is what makes his golf courses and hotels great.
"At the end of the day, what were looking at is a value proposition for America," Tijerino said to Trump at the end of the meeting, referring to immigration legislation.
"You've convinced me," Trump said to the delight of the activists in the room.

Will the REAL Donald Trump please stand up? The guy is like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde!

Please define a conservative..... in New Jersey. Is that big boy big talker Christie one? Cause he sounds like tony soprano on TV. Tough cream puff.

Trump is NO conservative. Loves big government in the service of his own self. Actions: see Menie, Scotland and the incredible personalized abuse this man put on the good people of Scotland. He is 12 years old with bigger toys.

Your understanding of the Gang of Eight is flawed. Cruz pushed to strip out the Path to Citizenship part of the Gang of 8’s bill, because he knew that Schumer and the democrats would drop the bill without full citizenship. Immediate citizenship is against the law, and he knew that. Legal status is not the same thing— and would require reviewing every illegal here. Rubio on the other hand- wants all the illegals to be citizens, right now. Ain’t that great?

Cruz staffer saying he can’t win either.

“The Cruz campaign has to focus on getting basic campaign techniques right,” said a Republican operative who works for the presidential campaign, who asked not to be identified. “I don’t think Cruz can win the nomination at this point. I think his campaign is done.”
