The only problem is we saw that once before: Reagan/Bush
Bush sold out the Reagan legacy...and brought us Clinton.
If it wasn't for George HW Bush, we'd be reading about the Democrat party in the History books.
I would like to see Trump pick Cruz. But if not Cruz, then some other proven Conservative.
“I fear that Trump may pick Rubio as a “unity candidate.”
Somehow I doubt that will happen - Trump doesn’t play by those kinds of rules. Trump, if he is smart, will go with a conservative, to make sure the base comes out. Trump himself will capture the broad middle (which is very big - the white vote...even if Karl Rove can’t understand that). That leaves Hillary with the extreme left, which she’ll find out is quite small.
No, Kasich is the smart pick, assuming Kasich doesn't rise in the polls much outside Ohio.
It is interesting to speculate. If Reagan had picked Kemp, who was the conservatives’ choice (and assuming Kemp would have beaten Doo-caca in ‘88), the ‘92 match-up between Kemp and Clinton would have been one for the ages. Assuming Kemp had won (which I wouldn’t have called an absolutely sure bet), you have to wonder what would have happened in ‘96. We don’t know who Kemp’s VP would have been, or who the Dems would have nominated in ‘96. Can’t say what the result would have been. Too many variables. But I doubt the Dems would have ended up a rump party, if only because of demographics.
