Which Presidential Candidate Has the Longest Record Fighting for Gun Rights?
Gun Owners of America ^ | February 25, 2016 | GOA

It's easy to forget the cold, dark days of winter, 2013.

The horrific tragedy of Newtown had touched the hearts of the nation, and every news outlet -- every one -- was blaming the Second Amendment community for what happened there.

GOA was receiving death threats -- not only against us, but against our children. Even Fox News was opining that the battle against Bloomberg's gun control was hopeless, as every news outlet spent every hour of the day predicting that our organization -- and the "gun manufacturers' lobby" [sic] in general -- would be absolutely and totally destroyed.

It was in this context that Senator Ted Cruz agreed to lead a team of senators to defeat every word -- EVERY WORD -- of Bloomberg/Obama gun control.

Working with us, Cruz implemented a brilliant strategy which used the complex rules of parliamentary procedure to send Barack Obama and Harry Reid running with their tails between their legs.

And the Cruz/GOA victory emboldened gun owners to take the Senate away from the anti-gun crazies in 2014 and return it to pro-Second Amendment principles.

Make no mistake: Had Ted Cruz not done what he did, the gun rights community would have been completely demoralized and defeated.

We would have been unable to achieve the electoral victories that we won in 2014, and instead, we would have been fighting desperately to fend off the succession of follow-up gun control measures that Bloomberg and Obama promised.

But that’s not the way history unfolded.

Because of Cruz, the efforts to enact gun registration and gun and magazine bans were stopped in the Senate.

And with Gun Owners of America supporting Cruz' strategy, the liberal media blasted GOA for helping him defeat gun control in the Senate:

Well I know it’s not Donald Trump. That would be about five minutes.

You would be wrong. You do know he has a concealed carry permit in New York and carries a gun at times. Both his sons are big hunters and are NRA members. You might want to do some research.

I’m thinking presidents who hold the Constitution to be the guide for America?

Another reason I support Cruz. He is willing to take a stand on principle amid the onslaught and not back down.

He also supported background checks and a ban on AR’s.

You might want to do some research.

Trump was in favor of limiting magazine size, does that count?

That’s my research...

RE: You do know he has a concealed carry permit in New York and carries a gun at times. Both his sons are big hunters and are NRA members.

That statement means nothing. When I pull into my local indoor range there is always a car there with a NRA sticker and Obama sticker on their bumper.

You may want to do some research. Trump until recently has supported anti-2A positions. That is fact, not the bullshit you are spewing.

Trump was also in favor of the assault weapons ban and in favor of increasing wait times to buy guns.

Trump did not support s ban on AR-15. He didn’t consider them assault weapons

I think the question is about second amendment rights for others, you know the little people, not just the super terrific billionaires.

So does Diane Feinstein. Does that make her a supporter of the 2nd Amendment?

What are you smoking? So he was calling for a ban on NFA items? THAT is what you are saying?

We didn't have Gun Rights until Ted Cruz came along?

The Senate didn't pass the Gang of Eight? Cruz stopped it in the Senate or was it the people first electing a GOP House and called to stop it.

Not Ted F. Cruz

That is now. The article is talking about the longest record.

“In his book The America We Deserve, published in 2000, Trump took a much more moderate position, criticizing Democrats who argue for total gun confiscation but also Republicans who ‘walk the NRA line’:

It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions.

He concluded: ‘I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s internet technology we should be able to tell within 72 hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”

Cruz is a really nasty guy. A really really nasty guy. The nastiest guy I’ve ever seen. He lies, that’s all he does is lie. He is the biggest liar I’ve ever heard of, all he does is lie. Then he lies about that. Then he lies about lying about lying. All he does is lie. He’s a really unhinged lying nasty guy.

And he’s from Texas. He hates New Yuck values. What a lying nasty unhinged Texan. Really nasty. And a liar. And unhinged.

The video I saw he advocated a ban on fully automatic weapons only. The interviewer specifically asked if an AR-15 was an assault weapon and Trump said “no”
