I see the problem you are stating but I also see the distortions and out right lies the MSM publish everyday. Nobody holds them accountable. The answer to the problem is to have more ethics in journalism. How we get there is the problem.
And the only way to force them to uphold standards is by the threat of monetary damage.
I’m also sick of them publishing horrible accusations at average Americans, then publishing a retraction a week later in tiny print at the bottom of page ten.
Retractions should be HEADLINES.

Isn’t that the truth. Ethics are not taught anywhere except maybe home schools - certainly doesn’t happen in “journalism school” (whatever that is). I can’t think of too many in the media who #1. can be considered ‘journalists’ or #2. have “ethics” ... Sharyl Attkisson & Catherine Herridge are the only ones that come to mind.
The public holds them accountable. Many have gone out of business when people didn’t believe them and didn’t buy their papers. Do we really want the govt making it easier to coerce the media? The freedom of the press is one of the cherished cornerstones of our democracy. Do we actually want a clown who gets mad every time he doesn’t like what someone says about them to have this power? This is dangerous, and those of you who are Trump supporters should realize it if they get past their blanket approval of their man. Or can he actually kill someone and everyone still support him?
Finally, we all threw a fit when Obama tried the “fairness doctrine” to go after talk radio? Are you ready for Trump to be able to go against any of his opponents?
