Trump's immigration outrage poses challenge for Cruz in Texas

Republican Ted Cruz's hopes of a sweeping nominating victory in his home state of Texas are being eroded as Donald Trump taps into conservative anger over immigration.

Polls show Cruz, the U.S. senator from Texas, is poised to win the state's nominating contest on Tuesday - the biggest voting day so far in the 2016 race - a result seen as essential to keeping alive his chance of winning his party's nomination.

But he could be stopped short of thresholds required to sweep its 155 delegates to the Republican convention if national front-runner Trump and other rivals win enough of the vote.

Cruz needs as resounding a victory as possible to stay competitive on a day when Trump is expected to put in a dominant performance in other states voting on "Super Tuesday".

Interviews with more than two dozen voters in Texas suggest that Trump's anti-immigration platform - which includes building a Mexico-funded border wall and deporting millions of illegal immigrants - could present Cruz's biggest weakness against the real estate mogul.

Then why not support the man (Cruz) who has stood by you for half a decade instead of the phony (Trump) who ripped Romney for being too harsh for suggesting self-deportation?
I have really come to believe that in present-day America, with the incessant internet disinformation, people are either too gullible or stupid to ever save Constitutional government.

Cruz won’t get anywhere near 50%, so the delegates will be proportional. Unless Cruz wins at least two other states, his campaign will be on life-support. I haven’t seen a poll yet that shows Rubio ahead, except MAYBE in Minnesota where they haven’t polled since January. Rubio has to win at least 2 or 3 states to remain viable, and that is unlikely.

Fast forward a year or so from now as President Trump is pushing forward full steam to build the wall on the Mexico border, a good chunk of which also borders Texas. I wonder whether the junior Senator from Texas will be helping get it done, or fighting it?

It’s very unfortunate that Cruz did not go bold on the illegal alien invasion until after he fell way behind Trump (nationally). Cruz will take Texas but probably not by 50%. Trump is trouncing him in almost every other state.

Cruz has not always supported deportation. In fact he supported legalization w/o a path to citizenship. He has changed his stance over the years.

Interesting point. If Cruz would support Rubio, maybe he would fight the wall as envisioned by Trump.

Rush had a guy from Texas call who supports Trump and called Cruz a liar, spouting all the same stuff Trump says word for word. It’s getting weird out there.

If Cruz can’t get 50% in Texas, it’s pretty sad.

Then why not support the man (Cruz) who has stood by you for half a decade

Why not support the man who did NOT go to the Mexican border with Glenn Beck and hand out teddy bears and soccer balls?

Actions speak volumes, and Cruz has yet to disavow Beck who is every bit as obnoxious (if not racist) as the KKK.

Cruz got a lower percentage of the Texas vote in Nov 2012 than Mediocre Mitt. That’s why I had a problem with the Cruzer’s claim he was “wildly popular”.

Why do they prop up this story that says Cruz will deport “millions” of illegal invaders?

He has never said that. He has only recommended they be rewarded with his “pathway to legalization.

Where does he EVER speak to rounding these population changers up and sending them home?

All he has ever said about deporting ANYONE is repeatedly to look to the “Constitution”, which allows for deporting those “illegals” who are “apprended” and “that’s what ICE does”.

LOL! He is talking about ONLY FELONS— those illegals who commit a crime and are caught by law enforcement! THEN, that FELON is turned in to ICE, who mostly lets them go!

He never says the universe of hundreds of thousands will be “apprehended”. NEVER.

Cruz has never backed off from those words to the Gang of 8, “pathway to legalization”, he has only backed off his EFFORT to stop the bill.

Cruz is a phony, and is *for* AMNESTY, while calling TRUMP out!

He says TRUMP is for AMNESTY. LOL! Cruz is a bobble head.

By the way, it’s finally dawned on me why Glenn Beck glommed on to Cruz and why Beck is after the loser between Cruz and Rubio to drop out after today. After Beck helps ease Cruz out, it’ll be Trump or Rubio. The GOP hates both so Beck is clearing the field for his main man (Romney) to save the day.

lets correct that.

If trump wins a majority in at least eight states, only other candidates who also win an outright majority in at least eight states will also be viable. Eight states are a requirement to be nominated at the convention.

I don’t think that the GOPe can pump up the cabana boy to do as well as Cruz, but I also don’t see either Cruz or Rubio winning eight states outright.

You’ve learned well from you Master.

That is a flat out lie, easily refutable. He had a much larger percentage of the vote.

If Trump is so wonderful and so inevitable, why are you people still in a nasty panic?

I can see where you're going and agree he might cause a fight. That's why the Senate abhors him. He's a one man team and an antagonist at the same time. Just plain nasty.

Have said right along...AG or USSC... but now I say neither. And he's going to work nice, nice with his old best friend, Roberts?? Sure...

Rubio made a mistake. He should have gone after Cruz.

Notice all the voter are basing their view on what Trump is “saying” or his “tone”.

Nothing about Trump record. Sad that so many people still fall for politicians campaign rhetoric.

I think Trump is going to beat Cruz in Texas. It's going to be a squeaker but he it.

I said it yesterday and still think so.
