Sen. Ted Cruz's victory in his home state of Texas, dubbed huge by many in the media, was the worst showing by a Republican candidate in a home state since 1913, according to a new analysis.

On Super Tuesday, Cruz won 43.7 percent of the vote, besting Donald Trump who won 26.7. But the average primary showing by Republican candidates who won their home state in the last 100 years has been 78.5 percent, according to the Smart Politics blog from Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

Trump so far has all the key regions and states if you look at the 1988 to 2012 GOP primaries. Texas is the only exception where you had a Bush running 3 of those times.

Bet Florida is worse next week for Rubio. Much worse. This year is like no other, and regional favorites don’t play like they once did.

So what. Break it down to specifics. Trump is an exceptional candidate and the dynamics of this contest are unusual, to say the least.

Having more facts is always better than having fewer. The article puts for information that can be accepted as factually accurate. I am less sure about the author’s conclusion.

Texas has been overrun by illegal trash. Can’t blame them for their anti-amnesty stance.

He has only won 2, just 2 states with primary elections and that was his own and the neighboring state of OK.
Some states in the south did not even have one county go for him and that includes VA which is important.

Saying that Rubio will be even worse here LOL.

Doubt if Trump will top 43% in the New York primary, particularly if all three non-Trump candidates are still in it in mid-April.

If Cruz had won 78% of Texas (like the “average”), Trump would have been forced to withdraw from the primary in YUUUMILIATION.

This race is unique and those historical results have no application this year. Cruz still won big while all the media were saying in hushed tones "Cruz has to win," as if he wasn't going to.

I also recall all the predictions from Trump supporters that Trump would win here. Nope.

Time to move on.

With Cruz’s numbers he would lose a primary challenge for his Senate seat. Clearly Ted isn’t as well liked in Texas as he wants everyone to think.

What incredible B.S.! As if he'd ever have to face a primary field with 4 well-funded opponents.

Stupid article who’s only point seems to be that this year we have three stronger candidates splinting the vote.

Nonsense... This was a historically fractured field.

It was a convincing win....more to come.

This is a stupid comparison since we had the votes splintered among 6 candidates
