Those states you are talking about use to be “hardline democrat” states, which rely on subsidies wholeheartedly and that is whats truly sad. Majority of subsidies are welfare, farm, and of course, Obamacare+ (medicaid extended). With the illegal aliens strain on the major immediate programs, wont be long till the bow does break, especially when these subsidies are totally cut from these welfare states. Trump is "winning" with 1/3 of the Republican votes, while the other 3-7 candidates split the other 2/3. Do you get it? It happens every presidential election. It's how we get Dole, Romney, McCain, and now Trump instead of a conservative nominee.
Trump has burned his bridges and won't get the support of conservatives in the general, just like Romney.
It's really not that hard to figure out. You're so swept up in Trump worship you don't get that he has limited support across the country.
So how is it that Trump has won black Republican voters?

Yet you’d expect - demand - that former Trump supporters vote for Cruz if he became nominee.
You know what? Many, many would vote for Cruz in that circumstance. Something more and more Cruz supporters would not do in the reverse. You’re all saying it very openly now.
What do you expect? Trump supporters tell them all the time that they’re irrelevant, he doesn’t need them, conservatism is old news, and every one of them they lose isn’t important, they’ve been replaced by two dem crossovers, doncha know? Hear it enough and some will say “okay, fine, good luck out Democratting the Democrats.”
I’ve always said I like Cruz. It was his supporters that convinced me in late 2015 I didn’t want to be a part of it. Nonetheless, if Cruz wins the nomination, I will vote for him eagerly and proudly.
