University of Missouri, one of the original flashpoints of protests at colleges across the country, is reaping a bitter harvest this coming year as freshman enrollment and retention of existing students will be down by 1500, according to an email sent by the interim Chancellor Hank Foley. Foley replaced Chancellor R. Bowen Liftin who resigned under pressure from protestors.
Not only is Freshman enrollment down 20%, but upper class students are leaving the school in droves. This has created a budget shortfall of $32 million.

“I am writing to you today to confirm that we project a very significant budget shortfall due to an unexpected sharp decline in first-year enrollments and student retention this coming fall,” Foley wrote in the memo addressed “Dear university community.”
At the Regional Economic Development Inc. Board of Directors meeting Wednesday, Vice Chancellor for Operations Gary Ward discussed the university’s budget situation.
A 5 percent budget cut would eliminate about $20 million from the budget, still leaving the university with a $10 million shortfall. He emphasized the decline was independent from legislative threats to cut state funding. On Tuesday, the Missouri House cut $1 million from the campus' allocation of state money and $7.6 million from UM System administrative funding. The measure still needs a final vote and consideration in the Senate.
“Realize most of our expenses are people,” Ward said. Take “$32 million, and look at an average salary of $40,000, $50,000, and we’re talking about hundreds and hundreds of positions impacted.”
The hiring freeze will only allow jobs “absolutely necessary to the mission” to be filled, Foley wrote. “Decisions to add faculty or staff must be exceptional, but will be left to the discretion of the deans, vice chancellors, vice provosts and the director of athletics.”

You mean families are finally catching on? That non stem majors are useless and the MAIN purpose of universities almost everywhere is to turn out endless entitlement demanding snowflakes?

People who have a bone deep undeserved sense of entitlement because the Democratic black grievance industry has been telling them for generations that they were victims of whites aren't out to solve their own problems or even recognize that any problems they may have are due to their own lazy professional victim attitude.
Then when the aforementioned colorful students rioted for their own entertainment the administration acted surprised. Those students who actually want to get an educations are voting with their feet and going elsewhere. The sad side is that so many colleges are infected with the same pernicious PC attitude that they may just be swapping one pile of crap for another.
Hopefully no public funds will flow to them. This crap needs to be slapped down hard.

It’s hard to see how low Freshman enrollment THIS YEAR was a consequence of the protests that occurred after school had already started. Timeline doesn’t work.

Missouri State Senate was/is investigating... I have not looked lately to see if they have made any decisions as to what they intend to do.

Admissions letters, financial aid packages, budgeting, etc... for students entering September 2016 are typically tabulated and sent out in March i.e.) now.
I think we can assume that is what they mean. Their incoming enrollment next September will be down by 20%.
As a grad from MU this absolutely warms my heart. There should repercussions from the sort of nonsense that many of the faculty and staff actually encouraged.
The inmates took charge of the asylum and the entire administration was scared to death. And that even trickled down to Pinkel and the football program. What a bunch of cowards.
They’re getting (or in this case not getting) exactly what they deserve.
