“Snow machine? In America they are commonly referred to as snowmobiles. Has the author even touched a snowmobile before? I will bet the author doesn’t even know what one looks like. This article looks like it was written for European consumption because it sounds foreign to me.

Snowmobile is copyrighted. Snow machine keeps the press out of trouble.

That is what they are commonly called the further North you go... most especially in Canada/Alaska.

If you watch the Alaska reality shows they call them snow machines. When I played around with them in Maine in the 70s everyone called them Skidoos, even if they weren’t. Lots of local terminology. For the most part here in NY we call them snowmobiles

Snow machine? In America they are commonly referred to as snowmobiles. Has the author even touched a snowmobile before? I've heard in Alaska they are referred to as Snow Machines rather than Snow Mobiles. Apparently a regional thing.

Snow machine is used interchangeably. All my in-laws from up north use that term exclusively.

Perhaps Alaska has had to resort to man-made snow to replace that snow destroyed by globull warming.;-)

During the other discussion of snowmobiles this week (regarding the crash at the dog race), the media called it a “snow machine” too. Very odd.

When I was growing up in CT they were called snowmobiles as well. My educated guess is that we didn't use the term "snow machine" because that's what they called the thing that made snow for the ski resorts. I susppose when you go to Alaska or northern Canada that there is no need for the other kind of snow machine.

It might be regional. I knew them as skidoos or snowmobiles but I think snow machine is also common.
