Given Ryan's performance as a Vice Presidential candidate he would be a disaster as a Presidential Candidate as he was even more of a liability to Romney than Romney was to himself - and that's not easy to do.

Ryan was even the guy who allowed himself to be tagged with losing a VP debate to Obama’s Court Jester Joe Biden, who gave a moronic debate performance and made a grinning fool of himself but still beat Ryan like a drum and claimed victory over Ryan and made it stick.

That was pathetic and embarrassing

Ryan is not ready for prime time as a national candidate, much less President of the United States

This was made clear by his performance as Romney's VP and is reinforced by his performance as House Speaker .

I still don't understand to this day why Ryan didn't turn to him in that debate and call him out for giggling like a pompous lunatic. He could have shut him down right then and there.
