As long as Cruz was useful in preventing Trump from getting the nomination, no MSM outlet would touch the story.

They would save it for if Cruz was likely to get the nomination, or for his reelection campaign.

Agreed! The MSM was just keeping it's powder dry until it could have the most impact - a la October Surprise.
