Sen. Ted Cruz refused to say Tuesday whether he would still back Donald Trump if the GOP presidential front-runner wins their party’s nomination, backing away from a firm pledge he made earlier in the campaign.
Mr. Cruz, whose coziness with Mr. Trump last year had pundits saying they were in the middle of a bromance, said that faded once the billionaire businessman began to turn nasty, and particularly in recent days when Mr. Trump has said he would go after Mr. Cruz’s wife.
“I’m not an easy person to tick off, but when you go after my wife, when you go after my daughters, that does it,” Mr. Cruz said at a town hall hosted by CNN in Wisconsin Tuesday night.
He accused Mr. Trump of being behind a thinly sourced story last week in the National Enquirer tabloid that reported Mr. Cruz had engaged in affairs with a handful of women. The story aggregated rumors, and the only named source was Roger Stone, an adviser to Mr. Trump, who said: “These stories have been swirling around Cruz for some time. I believe where there is smoke there is fire.”
Mr. Cruz also backed away from the pledge all of the candidates took last year to back the eventual nominee no matter who it is. Mr. Cruz ducked repeated direct challenges by CNN host Anderson Cooper to take a firm stand, saying instead that his goal now is to make sure he doesn’t face that choice.
“The answer to that is to beat him at the ballot box,” Mr. Cruz said.
Mr. Cooper, though, said Mr. Trump had made controversial statements about women and minorities last year, even as Mr. Cruz was praising him: “Sounds like you were engaged in a love fest,” Mr. Cooper said.

After all the crap about Trump maybe not supporting the nominee, it turns out to be Cruz who threatens treason if he doesn’t get his way. Are you Cruz supporters proud of your boy?
I would support Trump but not if he has a RINO running mate.
Many Cruz voters will only listen to what Cruz says and take it as fact.
Ted Cruz should drop out and endorse Trump. He has no path to the nomination and he knows it. He’s lost many states over the past couple weeks and only won Utah. Time to head to the exit, senator.
So... Cruz will not back Trump if Trump wins the nomination.

That’s OK too. Especially if that means Trump runs 3rd party if he is cheated out of the nomination. We don’t need, or want, anything connected to the GOPe anyway.

Cruz claims to be a strong Christian. Then why hasn’t he forgiven all those who’ve harmed him including Trump.

That’s what’s killing me. If this thing goes the distance and nobody has secured enough delegates, they’re both getting thrown under the bus.
Pig face Rove will be on TV blaming everyone but himself for the mess and will make claims that his stupid, short sighted tactics he used from 2000 until the present would have worked this year for a GOPe moderate had Trump and Cruz not been in the picture.
I can’t believe Cruz teamed up with these steaming piles of money hungry filth. They’re a bunch of scum no different than career welfare people that act all proud receiving “free money”. They basically siphon cash off contributions to install political figures that nobody likes. In the real world, these people wouldn’t be fit to mop urine soaked bathrooms at a freak show strip club. In Fantasyland, they play a major role in selecting the potential leader of the “free” world.
I am beyond sick of this ... These hacks are killing what should be a cakewalk ... If one of those moderates get the nomination, they aren’t going to fight Pig in a Pantsuit with the intensity they have when it comes to killing off Trump. Ted Cruz will be remembered as the world’s smartest useful idiot if the worst happens and Trump is short a few delegates.
Cruz starts this everytime, just like his sleezy campaign ad using a seminude of Trump’s wife via his Super PAC just so he could lie and say he knew nothing about it - I would have said a lot more than Trump did in response on Twitter, Trump is a gentleman.
And what is this crap about “when you go after my daughters” ? What kind of b.s. sick-o is this Ted, considering the remark and how blatant a false and crass statement it is, total lie and crass, Lyin’ Ted, his campaign is so crass and stereotypical of a politician. No way would I want this guy Cruz to be any part of the general election in any manner for the Republicans after he loses the nomination. Anyway, I don’t think I am imagining it - his nose is getting bugger and uglier by the day! Has anyone noticed? Seriously - his nose is getting bigger, maybe the old Pinocchio story is true, the more you lie the bigger the nose. Even Heidi doesn’t believe him IMHO, it is obvious.
Cruz needs to drop out of the race, because the shoe is about to drop at the most awkward moment. I am sure, there are a lot of folks who hate this guy for the same sort of stuff he is trying to do to Trump, Cruz is so fixated and focused on hitting Trump that Ted won’t even notice one of the people he did this to the past coming out of left field and exposing him.

Cruz never claimed that Trump went after his daughters. He was only drawing the line. Enough with the lies already.

I was a Cruz supporter at one time too but this him being the only principled conservative is just not true anymore. It's wild that people still believe that.
He lost that principle conservative label once he started welcoming in the GOP establishment in to his campaign. He sold us out, period!

I'm not so sure now I could move from Cruz to Trump...he has made it almost impossible to do so...and if he keeps it up he WILL make it impossible. His only foundation are his supporters and they're getting more and more vile and bold as this “thing” progresses.....and they're making him look even worse then he probably is.

It's funny you see that suspicion but fail to see the movement behind the powers that be that are trying to stop Trump.
You have the democrat party, the GOP establishment, the media, corporate donors, etc, all coming together to try to stop Trump.
Much of the movement behind Trump is to help end this corrupt power structure that makes up our Washington DC. How do you find that suspicious and not be suspicious of the powers that be that are trying to take him out? The powers that be that are trying to take him out are in it for themselves and the corrupt status quo.
