Another fake war - war on drugs. My mother is 80 years old. If she wants to take a Percocet - let her damn it. I have a elderly neighbor who has chronic pain, rheumatoid etc. Takes some type of narcotic. I don’t remember which one. Has to beg or can’t get them filled til the day she runs out. Doesn’t matter if there is a foot of snow and she doesn’t drive.
I imagine there will be a lot of uncomfortable people in that hospital.
Lol. Wonder what kind of pain meds they give for major surgery.
I think the issue is....having been around the rural areas of the south....is that people will get the prescription, and eventually reach a stage where the normal amount of Perocet won’t work. So, they go to Doctor number two, and get a second prescription. They are then taking twice the normal amount of medication, and eventually....that won’t be enough because the body adapts after a while to each dosage.
Liver damage? Yeah. It may take a couple of years, but your liver will suffer and whatever pain you had....won’t matter at that point.
Confusion? Go talk to the folks who upped their levels and reached a point where they were fairly confused on a regular basis. These are people who shouldn’t be working...shouldn’t be driving...and can’t be relied upon to handle their personal affairs.
I do agree that after some accidents and operations...Percocet makes sense in limited doses. Once you get past that point, and it’s more of a permanent thing...you need to find someone and sign your affairs over to them because you can’t be dependable anymore.
My wife has stage 4 breast cancer which has metastasized to her bones. She's responded so well to treatment that she no longer has pain, and told her oncologist that she wanted to stop taking hydrocodone, lest she become addicted. The doctor gave her a surprised look and said, "so what if you're addicted? You've got cancer!"
It seems to me that the biggest problem with addiction is that the addict can't get the drugs, because they've been made illegal, because people might get addicted.
My father is 84 and in a nursing home. He is dying from COPD and it looks like he won’t make it through the weekend. He is in pain non stop from all the coughing. Yesterday they gave him Tylenol.
They said as long as he is lucid, he shouldn’t be subject to medication that will effectively put him into a permenant semi conscious state.
Lets all suffer pain because a few become addicted. Let them go to rehab if they really want to get off the meds. Many people are under medicated for pain because the government makes them fearful of giving drugs...
