It is breathtaking how thoroughly we have begun following the model of the Soviet Union.
It is amazing that the Constitution is so clear that Congress (government) shall make NO law prohibiting the free exercise of religion.
Yet, 501(c)(3) has spawned efforts to do just that.
Why? Because the church is huge, it has its own communication networks, it’s wealthy, and when a sizeable portion of it speaks with one mind on a subject, then it turns trends away from the direction favored by various power groups.
In short, it is dangerous, and powerful people resent that portion of the Constitution that says it cannot be touched, so they’ve installed oligarchs in black robes who say that it can.
Well, that's populism for ya:

Here’s a couple of interesting and relevant historical factoids:
1. The KGB originated as the Secret Police of the Russian Orthodox State-establishment.

2. Remember that whole “from each according to their ability” idea? Well, evidently it got worked out and put into practice by another group on their collective farms (and central bank) down in Paraguay — before they taught it to Karl and Marxism got so popular.

It’s facts like that which render such a wise light upon the American founders prohibition against such state-established antics in the 1st Amendment of their republic.
