The idea that the GOP Establishment is now openly pushing for a brokered convention where neither Trump or Cruz becomes the nominee is atrocious and a blatant attempt to subvert the will of the people.
Here the thing. Two candidates, both of them recognized as anti-establishment candidates to the GOPe have garnered the following thus far through the votes in 35 states:
Delegates - 78.42% (Almnost 80% of the delegates)
Popular Vote - 64.69% of the popular vote.
Clearly, the PEOPLE are saying very loudly that they do not want any of the establishment candidates.
If you add the other anti-establishment candidates, the numbers are even more clear:
Delegates - 79.20%
Popular Vote - 68.64%
For the GOPe and Romney, Rove, Ryan, Bohener, Kasich or any other group of "establishment" people to come together and ignore and throw out the will of 80% of the people will simply show them to be the power-mongers and tyrants that they are.
It is clear to me, if things continue to go as they are, then the obvious ticket in any brokered convention where Trump falls just short and Cruz has a sizable number should be Trump/Cruz.
This will unite fully 80% of the GOP behind them and will deliver the slam dunk message that the GOPe absoultely deserves and needs to hear.
Finally, when you compare the relative turnout in vote between the DNC and the GOP, the comparison is telling.
DNC - 15,322,801
GOP - 21,092,537
The GOP has developed a turnout that is almost 6 million more voters than the DNC to date. This turns out to be 16% more people voting in record turnouts for the GOP.
Those numbers are going to grow over the next 15 states.
This will make a HUGE difference in the general election if the GOP front runners will simply unite.
This is why I continue to stand by my open letteer to Ted Cruz:

The Republicans could not care less if they win the presidency. They want to protect their place of privilege within the closed two party system. They can’t do that if they lose control of their party.
It's so obvious - Cruz isn't in this to win, because they all know he won't at this point. Cruz is part of the problem, needs to shut up and drop out at this point.
The only uniting there is to do at this point in the game is to unite behind Trump and make it happen. Otherwise, things are gonna get real ugly.

The logic that the establishment likes to push is that more people have not voted for Trump than have voted for him.
They fail to point out that this is true for each of the other candidates, but it’s even worse.
And their idea of an outsider means that person would have gotten 0% of the vote.
So, their original logic is flawed.
Trump, on the other hand, says that dividing the vote among multiple candidates early on split the vote in serious ways.
Let’s also point out that the party itself has been in full attack mode against their frontrunner for months. Personally, I don’t ever recall that happening before. Some say it happened during Reagan/Ford, but I was a voter at that time, and I simply do not remember the republican party HQ attacking Reagan with the vitriol that they now attack Trump.
So, that Trump is even standing says he should be the nominee, and especially since he’ll be the leading delegate hold, and perhaps will even have the requisite 1237 delegates for a majority on the first ballot.
Exactly...and precisely why the 80% of the vote representing Trump and Cruz simply MUST come together and put this thing to rest...and then go on and win by a landslide in November.
My letter to Cruz (linked above) recommends that he do exactly that.
Throw in with Trump, have his delegates go for Trump and then work with Trump (I believe for the VP) but however he can so that we get the change that the people not only want, but are absolutely demanding.
Cruz has it in his power to do that...and it would be absolutely for the good of the country.
I pray to God he will.
I think Trump has the support, from voters of both parties to go third party and win. Hopefully it’d kill the Republican party (as we know it).
until the wives flap I was certain that would happen before the convention. It is most the rational outcome.
with the Cruz women nuz, what does he bring to the deal now? What does Cruz as underdog want?

thegreenpapers.com shows Trump with 752 delegates.
It is difficult to get an accurate count because of the different ways some delegates are allowed in various states.
The fact is, a Cruz PAC put out some info on Trump’s widfe that he should, IMHO, completely repuriatre and forcefully tell his own people to stop such things.
This was the source of the flap between them...and if Cruz would simply admit that...the two men could forgive one another and put it behind them.
I can understand Cruz being upset about attacks on his wife. Anyonbe would be.
But oif he will get past that emotion, and look at the sequence of events...there was an earlier attack against Trump’s wife by his PAC.
Cruz should avoid a rationalization that essentially says that she used to be a model and years ago did such things. This does not excuse the PAC from going so deep into the mud IMHO.
It will be interesting to see what happens if the GOPestablishment tries to nullify the primaries and select someone who wasn’t even in the primaries.
I hope it does not come to that.
A 3rd party run will give the DNC the best chance to win.
Trump may be able to pull it off...bit it would be VERY risky.
Best thing that could possibly happen is for Trump and Cruz to come together.

Who’s wife is a Goldman-Sachs bigwig, and is on the CFR? Who is a willing placeholder for the GOPe to stop Trump so they can name one of their own? That’s one of the most absurd...

It would be an epic fail and splinter the party so bad that they (the GOPe) has to know they could not win in November and would be willingly throwing the election to the Dems..
If they did that...knowing that it would throw it to the DNC...then the GOP ends as we have known it all of our lives. Complete civil war and a new part rising from its ashes...but one that would take years and years to get over the split to the point where they can routinely defeat the dems.
I pray to God that if they try such a thing that, as I say, Trump and Cruz come together and shut it down completely.
They have the votes and the support together, to stop it.
I have been watching Cruz and what he has done for years.
Yes...he most definitely is anti GOPe and his record in Texas and in the senate punctuates it very clearly.
The GOPe hate him and are only turning to him now to try and stop Trump...with no intention of allowing Cruz to win, but only to throw him to the curb.
Is he perfect? No...not a pone of us is.
But he and Trump can come together and put this thing to rest, with trump being the Presidential candidate...and that is exactly what they need to do.
As you said he’s now a willing placeholder for the GOP elites. I used to like him, but I’ve lost all respect. I don’t doubt the GOP has promised a lot for helping them now. Just not the nomination.
I understand all that and pretty much agree.
My thought is that is now very old and perhaps irrelevant news transcended by the NE piece and now a lawyer waving the mayflower madam’s black book around.
I can’t grasp the implications of the fall out. I can’t grasp the outcome on the Cruz campaign or especially on the structure of the deal.
I would think the planned deal must be trashed and rethought from scratch. The asshole in Rubio’s campaign in effect ruined the Trump/Cruz relationship that could develop
I agree, but I think Cruz will have to swallow his pride and take the 2nd spot. And that would be the best anyway, given his age, it’s possible he would have 8 years after Trump as POTUS.
