Full title: 'Night Stalker' movie will premiere in Santa Ana, about 20 miles from the Mission Viejo site of his last crime

A new film – “The Night Stalker,” starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Richard Ramirez – is set to premiere in Orange County in early June after producers decided the movie should be seen in an area that the serial killer terrorized in 1985.

“We wanted to open in a place where he had an impact,” producer Matt Brady said.

The film will be screened at The Frida Cinema, the art house theater in downtown Santa Ana, about 20 miles from the Mission Viejo neighborhood where Ramirez committed the last of his horrific crimes during the summer of 1985. The date of the premiere has yet to be determined as Brady’s production company tries to firm up a date that Phillips, who is on location shooting the television show “Longmire,” can attend.

Phillips as a bad guy, this should be some good acting. I might actually go to a movie for the first time in over 20 years.

I was living in Fountain Valley,CA. at the time, about 20 min. up the freeway from Mission Viejo at the time, had to leave my wife and newborn home alone, well with a gun and very protective Lab, to go away on business to Illinois. I was very uncomfortable with the situation.

First thing I thought of too.

“Kolchak” was an unusually good show.

Love LDP but isn’t he a bit old to play this part?

“In Mission Viejo on Aug. 24, 1985, Ramirez was spotted by teenager James Romero III on Via Zaragosa.”

So much for America being America.

Left Laguna Hills/Mission Viejo 10 years ago. If my lousy memory serves me right I think we lost a secretary to RR/TNS back in ‘85. I had just transferred down to the Mission Viejo plant and it was a big deal. But that was over 30 years ago. I can’t remember her name. :<((

The night stalker hit 1.5 blocks from my home.

He butchered an elderly couple there.

I loved it too. The 2005 remake series sucked pond water.

“”was living in Fountain Valley,CA. at the time””

And I was living in Irvine at that time. I walked my daughter to/from school with a gun in my pocket...went to the mailbox with it and the neighbors had me get their mail for them...Of course, it was illegal but so what?

I have no desire to see a movie about that creep. It was a scary time and shocking when he was caught so close to our homes...but such a relief!

How is Lou Diamond Philips playing this guy? Isn’t he 3 times his age?

Read a lot of true crime books, but the Ramirez story was hard to get through.

Remember watching live as he was taken down by locals.

Don't know if I could watch the movie.
