The doctor is disappearing in America.

And by most projections, it’s only going to get worse — the U.S. could lose as many as 1 million doctors by 2025, according to a Association of American Medical Colleges report.

Primary-care physicians will account for as much as one-third of that shortage, meaning the doctor you likely interact with most often is also becoming much more difficult to see.

“U.S. health care ranks near the bottom in most studies. All American doctors do is treat symptoms, not root problems. I've heard that European doctors tend to have a more holistic approach.”

America has by far the best health care system in the world.European health care is far worse than America.

The British health care system is on the brink of collapse.

Most other countries have health care far worse than in the U.S.

However, Obama and the Democrats are working to make your false statement come true. If they continue, healthcare in the U.S. will be completely substandard in a few years.

Really. All rote. I’ll hand you my stethescope and lets see how you do.

Being a good doctor is one of the most demanding jobs in the world.

If you are doing it right, the level of commitment and stress is difficult for people not in the profession to grasp.

Have friends that invested in a very well equipped practice just before ObamaCare hit and they simply are not making it.

Why anyone would want to to go to put the best years of their lives on hold to go to med school, graduate with 2-500K debt, suffer through residency, invest another half megabuck into a practice only to lose money and get grief in the brave new ObamaCare world is beyond me.

Seems everyone in the medical biz is doing well except for the doctors.

Oh, another thing about U.S. health care. It’s only about making money. The patient is just a necessary nuisance. There is very little “care” involved.

Can you please define what you consider a root problem that physicians should treat?

First they replaced the drywall installers, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a drywall installer.

Then they replaced the IT professionals, and I did not speak out. Because I was not an IT professional.

Then they replaced the medical doctors, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a medical doctor.

Then they replaced me. And there was no one left to speak for me.

Gladly. For years, my mother had horrible skin eruptions. The dermatologists couldn't help her. They would give her cortisone and stuff like that, but none of it helped (and probably caused a lot of damage). Turned out the real problem was her diet. We discovered that on our own and by accident. After we changed her diet, her skin was fine, and has stayed fine ever since.

The doctors were completely clueless and didn't help her one iota.

Another example would be acne. Quite often, the problem is diet, but dermatologists just want to give you medication instead.

The motto of U.S. medicine seems to be: Where there's a pill, there's a way. :P

Huh? U.S. health care ranks near the bottom in most studies. All American doctors do is treat symptoms, not root problems. I've heard that European doctors tend to have a more holistic approach.

You are misinformed.

American doctors do treat symptoms which is what medicine is all about.

In Europe, the “holistic” approach you refer to is cost containment driven and mostly consists of doctors giving patients a nice sympathetic shoulder to cry on and a prescription of aspirin or pain killer to make you feel better and maybe put you on a nice long list for real care.

Britain's NHS is a total disaster. Consider a medical system with the work ethics, focus on quality and job devotion of the United Autoworkers or the SEIU combined with the operational model of your local dept of Motor Vehicles and you have only just begun to scratch the surface of the dysfunction of that system.

Ah, but CVS has stopped selling tobacco products.

Yup, just another reason I dont go to doctors or hospitals.

For an emergency I would. But for routine maintenance, I am my #1 practitioner. No one else cares about my health and body as much as I do.

Saturday I finally got reading glasses. Wish I had done so years ago. Everything I read in my hand is not only crystal clear but magnified also. Which makes reading my tablet and smartphone a lot easier and much more enjoyable.

In the middle of the night I had the light on and my wife caught me reading a comic-book.
She said: You can read your children's colored books in the day and I won't ridicule you, much.
I said: thank you dear.

And then the carbon units will be replaced by superior silicon. The pilots will know where to go, and when they don't, they will talk to each other, not to the redundant carbon units. And then the pilots ...
