Free Republic DNS entry seems to be gone
N/A | 04/04/2016 | N/A

I was surfing FR this afternoon and suddenly was unable to access any page on FR and the error stated the server could not be found.

I located the IP address, 209.157.64.200, of the server and then added an entry into my PC's host file and I can now see FR again.

I still do not see a DNS entry for FR, and that is interesting.

Somebody must have typed “Google” into Google.

I had the DNS a couple of times last night as well.

I found that I could not connect from my regular “drop-down” menu on FireFox but I could connect if I searched FR and then clicked a provided link.

Today it’s working again.

Or someone’s cat walked across the keyboard and inadvertently managed to type in the secret code that brings the Internet down.

Check your fuse box.

I put pennies in mine because the dang things kept blowing out at the most inconvenient times. Haven't had that problem since but there's this funny sort of burning smell sometimes...

Something funny seems to be going on. Free Republic disappeared from the DNS here in Grand Junction, CO about 10 minutes ago; but it's back now.

A couple of web sites I maintain got hit with an ICANN mistake where the powers that be wonder if a domain name's owner is still active and try to find out by blindly removing the name from the internet and waiting to see if anyone complains.

I was on FaceBook while on my cell phone today, and it just stopped working. When I got home, I tried to make a phone call and my phone was in AIRPLANE MODE.

Round up the usual suspects.

Don’t worry folks they’re just practicing for the Hillary dirty tricks campaign.
She’s doing it from a Home Server.

Verizon sold FL, TX, CA customers to Frontier. That occured on Friday with major problems. The DNS changed today and I had the same problem.

Frontier is blocking Freerepublic.com by removing it from their DNS tables. DNS is the internet address book.

I recommend going to OpenDNS. Many good reasons to use them. Plus FR works. Its a simple change on your PC or Internet router.

If the Government would just regulate the internet, we wouldn't have these problems. </sarcneeded?>

My Mom in Florida just called that she couldn’t get onto FR - being blocked. Their service was changed to frontier from Verizon.

I remotely accessed her computer and it’s down alright...keeps coming up to a Frontier search page.

Running a ‘down for everyone or just me’ on her computer shows it’s not just her.

Ha! We do that with orphan servers here at work - shut them down and see if anyone complains.

my computer is connecting but my iPad is not... others reporting mixed results like mine, exact opposite of mine, some phones working, some not... just have to wait I guess but it's not just your mom!
