Does Donald Trump understand the delegate rules in Pennsylvania?

Well, this is interesting. Under a new rule adopted by the Pennsylvania GOP in 2015, the 54 delegates elected from Pennsylvania’s 18 Congressional districts (3 per district) are unbound and can vote for any candidate they choose.

Salena Zito and Tom Fontaine report:

SalenaZito ✔ ‎‎@SalenaZitoTrib

"All 54 of Pennsylvania's delegates unbound on 1st ballot we called to see where they stand" [snip]

In other words, the popular vote never really matterd in Pennsylvania and it was always a delegate game:

Donald Trump has proven to have a 5th grade understanding of civics, and a second grade level of civility.

I don’t think that’s a new rule at all. Reagan picked a Pennsylvania V.P. in 1976 trying to win over the delegates for the first ballot, but he picked a liberal and his base revolted.

We in PA also vote for all the delegates by name on the ballot and they are NOT assigned to any candidate on the ballot. They don’t have to declare who they support and they are not bound to vote for who wins their district or the state. There are only a couple other states not bound on the first ballot.

From what I understand, most of the people who run for delegates here are establishment politicians, because they have to have name recognition to get votes based on their name.

Trump should get 54 friends from PA to be his delegates

Would make sense, I guess

Wasn’t that how the Electoral College was supposed to work?

Doesn’t matter. Trump needs to win the state and all the NE states. I want trump winning 36 states.

What we are seeing is the victory of politics and politicians over the people, who believe they have a say in their government but are actually just handed an illusion to believe.

The Democrats have their Supers and the Republicans have their shell games. And both parties are two sides of the same coin. That coin is Caesars, and you give to your rulers what is theirs.

Trump’s first mistake is not understanding that this is not business with set rules, the rules here are Byzantine - for professionals only. And because of that he didn’t quite grasp that revolutions MUST come from the outside. Unfortunately, they probably must also be by force.

I don’t think that’s very fair. I vaguely recall 6th grade civics and we were taught that the electoral college was made of delegates who represented the voters’ choice. I don’t believe unbound and bound delegates were a big discussion point in elementary school.

As for civility, those that think Trump’s rude or too abrupt likely haven’t spent much time in corporate America

Still, we owe a great debt to Donald Trump. He has exposed for all to see just how fraudulent and dishonest our elections and our elected politicians really are, and I think he is only beginning to uncover the corruption festering underneath.

Donald Trump has won the hearts and the votes of the people but I am not sure he can win this rotten evil game.

But it is better to know the truth and just how bad things really are, then to continue with the delusion that we are still a free people in control of our destiny and our country.
