Fight Over GOP Delegates in Washington

Out of more than 70 people vying for delegate slots [at the Washington State 5th Legislative District GOP caucus], only about a half dozen or so are for Trump.

[snip]

And by the end of the balloting, Cruz supporters have taken every single delegate spot. Forty-one of them are heading to the state convention. Not one Trump supporter made it through.

Doesn’t sound like much of a fight.

One guy has a grassroots organization the other guy, not so much.

It looks like Cheatin' Ted is up to his old tricks again. Stealing Delegates. Sounds like Clueless Donald has, once again, missed the boat.

Team Trump sent out an email blast to loyal Trump supporters encouraging them to go sign up to be potential Trump delegates in Washington State.
Well, they mixed up the location a little, and sent that email blast to Trump supporters in Washington, DC.
And the deadline to sign up for being a delegate in Washington State was two days ago. Dur!

Gotta love that huge great amazingly organized campaign.

Don’t forget that these 44 delegates are voted on in a statewide primary - not like the Colorado farce. Does anyone have any idea how Trump will do in Washington in a statewide primary, especially considering that there are lots of ‘moderates’ in and around Seattle, etc?

Conventions have not taken place yet. At the conventions, Trump supporters will have a chance to place delegates.

What you are likely referring to is someone has announced they have selected the delegates but that person’s announcement is not the final say on it.

If anyone in WA State is reading this, you need to get out to the convention tomorrow to the conventions in the following counties:

Kittitas
Pierce
Skagit
Spokane
Snohomish
Whatcom
Island

Show your support and your Trump delegate will have a chance to be seated by the intensity of your support.

Okaay… let’s walk through this one. Washington State has 44 delegates up for grabs in a closed Winner-Take-Most primary, broken down by statewide and Congressional District. The delegates are bound to the candidate who wins them – the usual one-ballot rule – and so it behooves a prudent candidate who thinks that this convention is going to the second ballot to make sure that all the delegates are actually your partisans, because then… they’re your partisans. This is familiar by now, yes?

Well. It’s already becoming clear that Ted Cruz thought about all of this ahead of time and Donald Trump did not.

The Trump campaign really dropped the ball on this one. They sent out an email today to their prospective delegates to remind them that they had to file by April 6. Two days late and a few dollars short.

This only matters if there is a second vote at the convention in Cleveland. The delegates are bound on the first vote.

Only real political wonks know ALL the rules- and it is NOT Donald Trumps fault. They are probably not making it easy to navigate all of them.

I am counting on him to manage it- it would prove he is skilled at navigating unfamiliar territory.

Well, here is the point about Trump, whether Trumpsters want to hear it or not. The presidency of the United States is not an entry level political office. An the quest to get there is a not insignificant part of what prepares one for it. Also, politics is by its very nature a complicated and often unpleasant business.

To be complaining now about “cheating” is more than naive, especially when none of this involves cheating. It simply shows that one party knew the rules and thought about them in advance and the other didn’t. How many presidential challenges are going to be similar to this? My guess is, many.

Although I will still vote for Trump in the general if he is the nominee, I am not impressed at all with his preparation, ability or work ethic.

Yep.....but it also has to do with ineptitude on the part of Trump's people.

I saw a Fox interview yesterday of Trump's Arizona Chairman, State Treasurer Jeff DeWit, who was complaining about Cruz getting delegates in line out there.

He said in the interview that he knew the rules, the delegate selection was all above board...nothing illegal happened...but he didn't explain why he didn't get Trump's people chosen....which is what he was "hired" to do.

If Mr Trump can't educate himself in order to navigate the "ins and outs" of a Republican convention....how the heck do you expect voters to believe he has what it takes to navigate the nasty waters of Foreign diplomacy with the likes of Iran, Libya, Syria, etc?

I believe that delegates have the option of abstaining from a first round vote. Not sure of this, but read it on another thread from one who seemed to know what he/she was talking about.

This would be an interesting twist if the delegate were actually for Cruz but was bound to Trump for the first ballot. Hmmm....

“Nonsense!!! Trump hires great people.”

I assume you left off the sarcasm /s for a reason. Trump certainly missed the boat on the delegate battle!
