Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley told Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland to his face Tuesday that the Senate wont consider his nomination.
Over breakfast, the Iowa Republican explained why the Senate wont be moving forward during this hyper-partisan election year, his office said. The statement added that Mr. Grassley thanked Judge Garland for his service, and that their 70-minute meeting in the Senate dining room was cordial and pleasant.
Both men arrived early for the meeting and avoided journalists later.
Mr. Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are blocking Judge Garlands nomination, saying voters should have a role in filling the high court vacancy by electing a new president to choose a nominee. President Obama and his progressive allies are trying to ramp up pressure on Republicans to hold a vote on the nomination.
The head of a conservative activist group opposing the Garland nomination praised Mr. Grassley for holding firm in his position.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I am so delirious, I thought it said “Judy Garland.”
In his face with a bouquet of roses, but still in his face.
Until the pressure goes up and they reconsider and then give him a hearing and confirm him. And laud him as the wisest jurist on the SCOTUS.
No sale.
LOL! That would mean that Grassley was talking to a transgendered dead guy/gal.
Somebody gave the cowardly Senate lions heart.
Wish it was.
Grassley is simply using the Biden rule on judicial nominees in a presidential election year. Since he’s using the Democrats own rule, why is there a problem???
It’s all scripted. The President will appoint the guy....he picks up his robe...the Senate GOP will fume. All of this occurring when Ryan gets the nod by the GOP convention, and then we get told that the only way to fix this is to fall over ourselves and vote GOP when it was a bogus convention, and none of us really care for Ryan. We will be told that only Ryan is a man who keeps his word and can fix this mess.
Frankly, I won’t fall for it. All of this resembles WWW-wrestling scripts.
Kabuki!
If anyone in the candidate slate wrote a script like that for real, it would be Donald Trump.
Wanna take bets on whether he tells Cleveland that he’s ready to do a cage fight with Hillary?
When I see “Judge Garland” I am reading “Judy Garland”
RE:”The President will appoint the guy....”
He will? What guy?
LOL. Yeah, sometimes Grassley (and even McConnell - think campaign finance) fights. Usually, however, it is for ethanol, or something else and not necessarily anything principled or conservative. But this was delightful.
Reminds me a little of when Chairman Helms refused to allow a hearing on Bill Weld to be an Ambassador. That was awesome.
Thanks for the ping.
I wonder if the choice is a dog whistle. Oz is a frequently used metaphor among the light loafer set.
Until they do.
When Hillary is the nominee and the GOP expects to loose the WH...the Senate will roll over and accept him rather than risk loosing their seat in the Senate..just watch.
