The United States will push for a two-state peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians until the end of President Barack Obama's mandate, Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Monday, according to AFP.
Speaking in Washington to a conference held by J Street, Kerry said attacks like Monday's on an Israeli bus in Jerusalem only underlined the need for a negotiated solution.
"Despite the fact that we have spent time and effort to try to get there for these past few years I can tell you that for these next nine months we will not stop working to find a way," Kerry was quoted as having said.
He insisted that pro-peace factions among both populations understand the importance of a viable Palestine alongside a secure Israel as the only basis for peace and democracy in the region.
"And so we will continue to advance the two-state solution as the only solution, because anything else will not be Jewish and it will not be democratic," he declared, to applause from J Street invitees.

Also John Kasich, although his other idiocies outweigh that one grain of sense that he’s uttered.
We pre-tribbers say it must occur no later than that, or it’s not much of a surprise - seeing how life is “normal” when it happens - even during the first half of the Tribulation, life will not be “normal” as the Two Witnesses begin striking the Earth with plagues, like the Old Testament.
Others differ in opinion, of course. Guess we’re gonna find out either way.
That should be “if they are successful in pulling it off” - that is.
That will be the “amazing” part. This man, the Antichrist will pull off what no one has been able to do. “Peace” between Israel and the muslims. The world, even those who adhere to ecumenical “christianity” - small “c” on purpose will be amazed - but it is the 7-year aspect, too, that gives it away. 2,520 days.
The politician who does this will be hailed as “messiah” for he has done the impossible.
I’m totally with you - the overwhelming majority of islam and certainly, the PLO, Hamas, PFLP, Al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigades, et al are dedicated to the destruction of Israel.
In the midst of that 2,520 days, at the mid-point, the Antichrist reveals himself by declaring he is “god” in the Third Temple in Jerusalem. Yes, it is coming. Also part of the “amazing”.
This is the deception. Leading to the big one.
I meant to say the 7-year commences with the “confirmation”.
If it is confirmed publicly, which I assume it will be, because it’s big news, there will probably be a public signing “ceremony”.
I believe the Two Witnesses will show up then - the Antichrist has to kill them and the whole world watch them Rapture (alone) into Heaven - while the world watches it happen.
And then shall be Great Tribulation .... and here comes the Mark of the Beast with the False Prophet.
It’s also that I believe the unsuccessful Iranian attack of Ezekiel 38 comes first - but I can’t prove that. Some say you can - I say it fits better if it happens first.
You’re gonna see a massive destruction of Iran and her allies when they come against Israel. It is so prophesied and so shall it happen.
I think it could (possibly) convince the world that Armageddon is going to happen over this land. So they’ll really push for the “peace deal” - like Livni does.
Unfortunately, it is actually the “peace deal” that brings the real Armageddon at the end of that 7 years.
