Or rather in full I’d heard it as “Sir, if you were my husband I would put poison in your coffee.” Winston: “Madame, if you were my wife I’d drink it.” But then that’s pretty well precisely what you posted except in reverse, isn’t it? Perhaps at different times they were both said. His relationship with the woman, Lady Astor I think, was prickly it seemed.
