Well, this IS my area of study. I wrote a slew of articles on Jackson and the bank, and specialized in this area for about 10 years before moving on.
Jackson was a turd. OK general. Creep as a president.
In reality, Jackson, being first Democrat President, was the first to truly "break" the Presidency, he give the Supreme Court the Finger during the Trail of Tears and should have been removed from Office because of the Nullification Crisis.
But since he wasn't, that is when the Presidency first truly got away with anything it wanted, regardless of the Checks by the Other Branches.
Which would lead to so much.
F.D.R. and the Gold Theft comes to mind.
The President can do what ever he wants if he has the will to do it. And it all started with the First Democrat President.

I go with Rothbard on that issue.
Jackson was right in the principle regarding the Supreme Court, but wrong in that case.
The Treaty was legitimate and should have been respected.
I think that was the greatest blot on his Presidential legacy.
Jackson gradually lowered Tariff's to make them less odious to the South, while paying off the debt.
It still took a great deal of government restricting it's spending to do so.
Jackson was the last President to leave the Office with the government not in debt.
The nation was growing so there was a need for government to grow as well to handle it's legitimate responsibilities.
Remember the Tariff was the major source of Government revenue, there was no income tax.
Yes, the South outfoxed itself and it was to blame for the Tariff of abomination ,not the North.
Jackson followed Jefferson thinking on the court that it was executive branch that upheld the laws and each branch was equal to the other in constitutional responsibility.
Jackson was in my opinion a great man, a man who had some severe flaws, but also great virtues.
Not to the slaves she helped free.
They're probably "historically minor" too.
And she was, by your admittance, a historically major symbol. Which is a pretty neat trick for someone who was supposedly actually a historically minor figure, since history itself is largely the assessment of symbols.

I did some research on the subject ( a History of Money and Banking in the United States, Murray Rothbard) and I see where you are correct on the issue of the influence of Mexican silver and the British (the raising the interest rates) came into play and caused the recession of 1837.
And with this change there is only one Democrat left on the front of our paper currency - Jefferson on the rarely seen $2 bill
$1 - Washington - non-partisan (though some consider him a Federalist)
$2 - Jefferson - Democrat (known as democratic-republicans at the time)
$5 - Lincoln - Republican
$10 - Hamilton - Federalist
$20 - Tubman - Republican
$50 - Grant - Republican
$100 - Franklin - non-partisan

However, I found the Woodbury plan for Jackson’s national bank in the Jackson papers in Nashville.
Land sales were still a major source of revenue.
