Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.
"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"
"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."
Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

I’m a woman, and it doesn’t make sense to me either. It’s either a person with a right to life or it’s not. Circumstances of conception can’t take away a God given right.
I agree totally people cannot make horrific decisions like these for someone else.
That's the only abortion related question that matters in the real world. Until Roe is reversed there's no stopping legal abortion in the United States. If it is reversed we have a chance to save real lives.
I'm always willing to accept a compromise that improves the situation. Making these exceptions reduces opposition to the pro-life position. If you want absolute consistency stick with theology or philosophy. Politics always requires compromise.

I wish abortion wasn’t legal because that would save some lives. But I know facts. Murder is illegal and people of all ages get murdered. Women will still get or be trapped into abortions when they are illegal.
Appoint Supreme Court justices that would overturn Roe v Wade, as well as the Kelo decision, which Trump favors.
The fact is the President can do nothing about abortion, it is legal.

In the aftermath to follow November's loss, the pundits will try to explain how T**** lost by indicating millions stayed home or even voted for Hillary, or wrote in a vote because New York values was not that appealing to many. In addition with 3 out of 4 women saying they dislike him, no wonder T**** won only Idaho and Alaska. One lady at my office actually told me T**** made her vomit. My sister who has never voted anything other than Republican is going to call in sick on Election Day. Me, also in Virginia, will vote on Election Day, but my vote will ensure T**** never becomes president. He needs our votes in Virginia if T**** has any hope of winning the state. No, realistic I wish that there would never have to be abortions,but unless they can come up with a way to totally turn off reproduction unless you want it,when you want it we will always be faced with this dilemma. I know too many examples of it being used for birth control,multiple times. This is a sickness in our society that condones this offing of the innocent. Just reopening a dialog can save countless babies in the future. Hopefully prayers will be answered on this continuing human drama.
