Trump: You Bet I Support Raising Taxes on the Rich
Townhall ^ | 04/21/2016 | Guy Benson

GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigrationabortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

So many people have been hoodwinked by this jackass. I’m about 90% below the income tax threshold myself, but got to snicker at the rich dupes who’ve been pushing this guy. Now you see the Real Trump ™

Unlike Trump ... Cruz is NOT for higher taxes and tariffs. Trump is for higher taxes and tariffs but that doesn’t really bother you does it?

And in the meantime, FReepathons are lasting longer and longer and longer. Gee, I wonder why.

I've noticed that the chart showing how close the contributions are coming to the target goal of the current FReepathon have disappeared.

His proposed tax brackets are far lower than the existing ones. He actually has a formal policy statement about this.

What he is referring to is nixing some of the loopholes in our Byzantine tax code (put in place by lobbyists in return for kickbacks to mostly Demscum politicians) that will result in the Uber-rich and their trust funds paying taxes like the rest of us — which will of course be an increase.

This isn’t rocket science....

Trump is pandering to the Bernie people who will be all pissed off when Hillary is nominated. Higher taxes on the rich and high tarrifs, right up any Socialists ally.

Still Trump supporters won’t care. The Donald is still their god.

The Trump campaign death spiral began today.

I dunno.... how do these statements compare to shooting someone in cold blood .... on main street?

The trumpers have put down their torches and pitchforks a little this morning.

Celebrated a little too much last night.

I am not a devotee to either of the two, Trump or Cruz.

Let me say, in defense of the DT fans, that they aren’t supporting what you say. They’re supporting DT who seems to give voice to the immigration and repeal Obamacare issue.

They think he is electable and will DO what he says on those issues.

Not trying to fight about it, just explain it.

My position is that with a President Trump, the Republican Congress will need to work with him to make sure the power slowly shifts back to the Congress and the states.

What happens if there are no more rich? Which raises the question who is rich? How does one define rich? The term “rich” always ends up meaning Middle Class. The middle class is disappearing.

Your reflexive little deflections aren’t going to work. The subject matter is Trump’s shapeshifting on important issues. Do try to keep up.

“Did you happen to notice his statement contradicts his tax plan. His tax plan calls for a top rate of 25%. It makes no mention of taxing the “rich”!”

Read further, the section about eliminating loopholes for the wealthy, like the ones rich limousine liberals use to shelter themselves from taxes that they demand everyone else pay.

Everytime Trump says something really stupid, trumpers refer us to his website.

Not working, baby. I believe Trump. A smarter person wrote up the website.

Nice of you to spend so much time focusing on complete irrelevancies.

Why don’t you take a closer look at Deceptive Donnie instead of spreading innuendo?

“Trump routinely makes clear that he isn’t familiar with his own positions.”

Someone needs to direct Trump to his own website, and then read his policy proposals to him.

Tariffs are good channel George Washington’s spirit and ask him. If you knew ANYTHING about US history you’d know the USA prospered under severe protectionists tariffs. But now you know the truth so further ignorance is well stupidity.
