Undocumented mom fears her ‘American Dream’ will be cut short
Charlotte Observer ^ | April 22, 2016 | Mark Prince

Yessica Ochoa made headlines in 2014 when her 9-year-old daughter, Ligsdenis, became the first child to show up in Charlotte as part of a surge of unaccompanied Central American children who walked by the thousands across the nation’s southern border.

Nearly 70,000 made the trek that year, seeking asylum from gang and cartel violence, and hoping for reunification with parents who had left them behind to establish better lives in the U.S. Ligsdenis Ochoa photographed shortly she arrived in the U.S. from Honduras in 2014. Ligsdenis is now a fourth grader at Merry Oaks Academy and soon to be a legal resident of the country, thanks to aid from Charlotte attorneys at Central Law Group. She’ll be 11 next month.

As for her mother, there’s good news and bad news.

A Charlotte couple who read about Ligsdenis in a July 2014 Observer story decided to anonymously donate enough cash to jump start their future in the United States. The money has become the basis for a successful food truck business Ochoa started eight months ago.

But Ochoa, 34, is also undocumented and can’t help but worry as the U.S. Supreme Court debates the legality of an immigrant-protection program proposed by President Barack Obama.

The rising popularity of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump frightens her even more, with his talk of deporting entire families. ADVERTISING

Now she is the one who could be deported back to Honduras, while her newly arrived daughter is here to stay.

How many people has she infected with Chagas since she’s been here? Who is responsible for paying for their treatment? Take it out of Hussein Obama’s wages?

My sister’s daughter in law just got deported back to Indonesia. She has been here legally for about 16 years. Went to college on a visa and then worked and got advanced degrees on a visa. Applied legally for naturalization never on welfare or any kind of assistance. Has been married about 5 years to an American citizen. The INS has had her in court for years trying to deport her because a long time ago some lawyer got her to sign some improper document. He subsequently got disbarred.

Last month the judge told her that if it was up to him he would let her stay but his hands are tied and he had to deport her and she can never return to the US as long as she lives. My sister’s son in law had to put her on a plane last month. Our family is desolate. Supposedly nothing can be done.

I have to watch a million of these low life illegal aliens walking around Atlanta everday and nothing is done to send them back. I loathe them all.

I told my sister to have I’ll call him Bob just sneak her back in through Canada and get her a fake driver’s license and so what if she can’t work. He makes plenty of money. I have zero care for the laws anymore. Zero. If you try to abide by the law in this country you are screwed.

My "American Dream" is that these criminals ALL get deported after their assets are seized.

Everyone of these SOB’s who crossed over without authorization needs to be rounded up and sent home. Every Muslim must be thrown out of America. We must get rid of every immigration act Ted Kennedy worked on. He screwed us also.

What about the Honduran Dream?

I watch House Hunters International and there are a whole bunch of People moving out of the United States and settling in not only Honduras, but Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and a myriad of Central and South American Countries.

To listen to these people, you would thing any Country South of our Border is a modern day Auschwitz.

I get your reference. I see the metaphor differently I know you didn’t ask

It’s a pop up fly with two outfielders on it the infield is on their way to the dugout and the umpire’s drinking water checking his email

I’m a girl and I can see that

This game you’re talking about is a rigged game where the guy screaming you’re out is trump going into the corporate office saying your fired. It’s all rigged.

My American Dream ended in November, 2008. I have been living a nightmare ever since.

I don’t care how sad the pity party story is... the illegals have NO BUSINESS forcing their way into our country...

EVEN if white liberal elites need to be propped up by them... even if the CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS needs semi-slaves... If they’re not here legally, they need to go back to where they came from.

The AMERICAN DREAM is for Americans and those we legally invite to share in our great experiment of government by the people.

It’s not for illegals who will vote as a bloc in exchange for ‘favors’ AKA as corruption.

This woman lets her child come to the US in the company of dangerous criminals and pays them bribes after the child gets here to ensure her safety, while American citizen parents have been charged with child endangerment for letting their children walk to school or the park in their own neighbor.
