In June 1966, John Wayne stopped by to visit Special Forces Operational Detachment A-323 at Camp Trai Bi, Vietnam when he was in country gathering details for his upcoming movie "The Green Berets." He had a beer with us and visited for a while before he departed. He fit right in; he was one of us.

On May 26, I will join two other A-323 veterans and hoist a beer or two in honor of "The Duke." It's too bad we don't have Falstaff beer to do it with.

Wayne filmed “The Green Berets” near here on Eglin AFB.

That had to be a very special event. You have my envy.

While it’s not the same, you can get a Falstaff beer mug on eBay for about $22.
