Massive effort to smuggle weapons into Gazan foiled

Authorities have announced that customs investigators, along with the Israel Security Authority (ISA, also known as the Shin Bet or Shabak), recently prevented an attempt to smuggle four tons of ammonium chloride into Gaza.

The chemical, which is used in the production of weapons, was hidden in bags of salt. Four tons would have allowed Hamas or other terror groups to create hundreds of long-range rockets.

About a week before Passover, a shipment labeled as 40 tons of salt reached the Nitzana crossing, which is used for transporting goods between Egypt and both Israel and Gaza.

An extensive search of the containers revealed bags of ammonium chloride hidden among the salt.

Ammonium chloride is classified as a dual-use item, meaning that it has both civilian and military functions. Anyone who wishes to bring it into Gaza requires a license.

Suspicions have been raised in the ISA over the large amount of salt going to Gaza, because salt shipments are frequently used to smuggle chemicals for producing rockets.

The ISA believes that the importer, a Gaza resident with connections to Hamas terrorists, intended that the material be used for terror. This case illustrates the terror organizations' efforts to smuggle in dual-use materials in order to increase their fighting potential, while camouflaging their actions as intended to help the civilian population rebuild.

Ahem. Just pointing out the obvious here. Ghaza is situated along the Mediterranean coast. The Mediterranean ocean is full of salt, which can be extracted from salt water, such as is in an ocean, which the Mediterranean ocean is. There is no need whatever to import salt to Ghaza.

Not a particularly persuasive argument.

These are the Palestinians we are talking about.

They would have trouble producing snow cones in Antarctica

Israel-Mossad-Shin Bet has many hundreds of Muzz informers on its payrolls. This is inexpensive and effective and contributes to Hamas paranoia...

Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. There is no evidence whatever that Palestinians can’t produce snow cones in Antarctica. If you want to test it out, there are plenty of them in refugee camps who would love to operate a snow cone stand in Antarctica, rather then sitting around waiting for their day of return.

There is no need to import anything until the HAMAS organization dies of starvation...Gaza is Free, free of Jews and the scum that live there put their resources in rocketry and not nation building...

Is the “40 tons” a misprint? It says it was labeled 40 tons of salt and 4 tons were found to be ammonium chloride.
So, even though the salt can be extracted from the Med., they don’t?

Ammonium chloride s usd to make solid fuel rocket engines. It is slowed down for that use.

Rather dangerous stuff and very corrosive.

It is expensive and you need the right machinery to extract sea salt.

You also need intelligence, so this process is wholly outside the abilities of the primitive, inbred Paleostinians.

No, you don’t

All you need is a very shallow pond and the sun. The sun evaporates the water leaving the salt. the process has been used for ever. In the 60’s I flew over many such very large ponds just out side manila

The Israelis do it, and the terrorists living in Gaza can afford it.
