Trump say he’s open to higher minimum wage, goes after Sanders supporters

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Wednesday that he was open to raising the federal minimum wage, breaking with the prevailing view of his party.

“I’m actually looking at that because I am very different from most Republicans,” Mr. Trump said in an interview on CNN’s. “You have to have something that you can live on.”

The number of workers who actually earn minimum wage is minuscule. And a moderate increase of the minimum wage would have only marginal effects.

But an increase from $7.25 to $15 is not a moderate increase. And we have only to see the results of the localities who have recently adopted a $15/hour minimum wage.

And an even bigger hidden cost of such a significant increase in the minimum wage are all the union-wage contracts, which are tied directly to the Federally mandated minimum wage.

I support Trump, and this, if true, is very troubling. But Trump *might* go there, while Hillary is *sure* to go there. And then some! So not a deal-breaker for me.

IMO, the three most important issues this year, which will determine the long-term survival, or destruction, of the Republic are:

1) Illegal immigration
2) Illegal immigration
3) Illegal immigration

If we don’t deal with issues 1, 2, and 3 right now, and eventually amnesty 20+ million, plus extended family members, there won’t be a single Conservative holding any office, anywhere, forevermore. And everybody else’s pet issues will all be moot.

As Trump studies this minimum-wage issue, I would hope that someone would give him a quick refresher on microeconomics.

Anyone who thinks government should regulate wages is a socialist. Period.

>>>You based your conclusion upon a false and defeatist premise<<<

Sorry, America MIGHT Elect a Person with Conservative Ideas and Policies, but it will never again Elect a Conservative Ideologue.

>>>Here’s a novel premise...elect real constitutional conservatives and we’ll be amazed at the leftist policies and laws err can roll back<<<

That is a novel idea but it will just never happen, so it will remain a novel idea and nothing more.

The America of today is nothing like the America of 1980.

Wish in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills up first.

Don't assume I am happy in how things are, I just accept the reality of the situation.

I was a Cruz guy, began to lean Trump when I realized he wouldn't make the cut. Now we move forward to defeat the DemoncRats. You fight with the Army you have, period.

I’m disappointed to see many fellow Freepers still haven’t figured Trump out. As a businessman, Trump rarely closes the door on negotiations. At the negotiating table, you always have to have something to bargain with, and you always have to be willing to walk away. He is saying he is “open to it”. He didn’t say he absolutely will implement it. “Open to it” opens the door for Dems and Bernie supporters to join the Trump Train. As President, Trump doesn’t control whether the minimum wage is raised or not, so his comments and thoughts on it are a moot point — EXCEPT for drawing in more voters in November. Freepers should know better, and should ignore this noise, which is all a non-issue. Stay focused. #NeverHillary.

Anyone own stock in antacid companies?
Any booze producers?

If so the next few months should show great profits as the Buyers Remorse should be YUUUUGGEE!
EPIC in fact.

“Next he’ll be floating an “Assault Weapons Ban”

He was for it until he decided to run last year.

Also nice to see how Mr. “anti-Establish” now has the full love and support of Mitch McConnell ($60,000 donation from Trump in 2014.)

Let's not jump the shark every time he says he's open to something - he didn't get where he's at by making a lot of rash and unhelpful decisions.

All eyes on Hillary.

The minimum wage is here to stay, regardless. Besides, as someone else pointed out to me, “Get rid of illegals and implement real fair trade and wages will naturally go up.”

The argument for no minimum wage is logical, compelling, clear, and well developed.
It is also political suicide.

This. Pick your battles. Trump can win on guns, closing the borders, an America first foreign policy and tariffs. He doesn't need to drag up every loser issue from the Taft campaign.

He didn’t say 15 dollars an hour.

The minimum wage being bumped is a political issue during a political campaign. Personally, I don’t think a bump from 8 to 9 dollars is going to make any difference in this economy, but I do think that saying “No way, doctrinaire, etc., etc.,” will hurt with the cross-over blue collar democrats that Trump is counting on.

The bottom line will always be new jobs, jobs returned to the USA, and better jobs.

Let’s try a second comment.

Whoop-de-friggin-do; I don’t care.

I knew that this was going to happen as I went in. I support Mr. Trump anyways, because the policies that he’s good on FAR outweigh what he’s not so good on, especially when it comes to the revival of our country.

No, having a minimum wage is what drives the illegals to come here. Businesses that want to stay in business by paying less than the minimum wage can only hire illegals to whom the minimum wage does not apply.

The minimum wage (along with all the other labor law regulations) is the primary reason there is a demand for illegal labor.

I doubt that you even realize what you posted. Marx was “supporting” free trade because, in his mind, it increased the “divide” between the haves and have-nots. What we know is that “income inequality” is actually a sign of a very prosperous society. Remember, our poorest are actually some of the wealthiest people in the world.

In other words, he is actually saying that free trade makes a society MORE PROSPEROUS!
