The White House refused Tuesday to criticize black female West Point cadets who posed for a photo giving a black-pride gesture, saying only that President Obama is proud of the class of 2016.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest acknowledged the photo has generated some discussions about race relations in our country.
But the real focus should be on the tremendous accomplishments of these cadets, Mr. Earnest said. Im not going to try to divine the message that those cadets were attempting to send.

I agree with you. They made a politically incorrect statement that offended some people. Maybe we should ALL be less offended about freedom of expression.
If, instead, it were a "black lives matter" sign, I'd be offended. All lives matter, and that whole movement is racist and deranged.
Unless there is a future armed conflict where these same black officers might be a target of opportunity for their nonblack troops—as in the fragging that went on in Vietnam. Things can always be redone with a different angle. And nonblack troops might differ in their racial opinions about the raised fist being used! To some it might be the same as the nazi salute. At any rate it’s not appropriate for any Americam in the military. JMHO.
Its lazy speak I am sick of it
Would the WH be proud of white cadets raising their hands or gesturing for #WLM?
The idea of showing allegiance to other causes, or separate groups while in uniform seems like something no cadet should be doing.
What would the West Point leadership think if they found a group of cadets saluting, for example, a flag that was carried into battle years ago by other Americans from the south, or a modern militia flag, or showing support by saluting in a way associated with any other nation or group?
Imagine the same number of cadets, striking the exact same pose! What would the reaction be?
I agree with you. No one can convince me most if not all those young women are familiar with both the black power fist and the BLM movement.
They had to know they were pushing the envelope and in my view there should be repercussions.
I don't see them getting even that under this administration.
It's beyond astonishing and appalling - it's into surreal.
Officers staging what amounts to mutiny?
Would you issue them weapons?!
Ignorant, not lazy...
“Officers staging what amounts to mutiny?
Would you issue them weapons?!”
I think the more disturbing issue is that these cadets most likely had no idea there was anything improper with this display. I’m 99% sure this photo was taken, with the intent of putting it in the yearbook (called the Howitzer). The style of the poses (other than the black power signs), along with the uniforms (they are modified to look 19th century, which is a tradition) are exactly what is put in the yearbook. My best guess is that this is what is called a ‘club’...and it is probably some ‘Contemporary Women’s Club’, or something like that. when I was a cadet there was a coed club that black cadets gravitated to called the ‘Contemporary Affairs Seminar’... or CAS, nicknamed ‘Caucasians Aint Sh$t’. Anyway, I believe this photo was taken as a club photo, with every intention of being in the yearbook.
Which means that these cadets are in such a PC bubble that they saw nothing wrong with this, and didn’t view it as mutiny at all. Now they obviously would understand a Nazi salute would be improper...but not this. That’s the part that disturbs me.
PS, I just looked at the list of clubs - they now have one dedicated to LGBQ...talk about disturbing.
WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!...whooda thunk it? Obama would rather support a bunch of thugs than support our military academy.....PATHETIC!!
BINGO!!!!, .....but we don't want to hurt their feelings!
It sounds like the academy hasn’t figured out where it stands on this or what to do about it yet. One can object to the photo and the gesture without labeling the cadets as “thugs.” If they’ve lasted this long, they probably have been working and studying rather than having drive-by shootings.
"Jeff" is not worthy of your time...he was in error and knows it. For him to expect you to violate the rule to save his butt is totally unprofessional.
Nope, sorry, they are thugs. A West Point Graduating senior should be above reproach. If they are bringing negative attention upon themselves at this stage of their careers, what the hell are they going to do when it comes down to REAL judgement time...PATHETIC.
Thanks. I agree. The penalty for lying and giving a false report is ‘separation’, as in kicked out. Jeff knew that. What he didn’t see is me running all over the barracks looking for him and delaying reporting my headcount, in hopes that he would show up. My room was adjacent to his, so the last few weeks of school were interesting. But I didn’t care - it was his fault, not mine.
Umm...that IS disturbing, to say the least.
What would they say about an equivalent white segregationist club, burning a cross in their dress Grays?
They seem to be wearing confederate uniforms
= = = = = = = = = = = =
From what I recall, at one time the Dress Uniform Blouse was a powder gray, with white trousers and Black Chevrons where applicable—
which could be construed as ‘Confederate Uniforms’
I hope more sensible women speak up on this matter. I hope that women will not be the weak link in the chain that brings America down.
