A federal judge has blocked the proposed merger of Staples and Office Depot, saying the government had made the case that the merger had a "reasonable probability" of hurting competition in office supplies.

There are lots of independents out there to do business with. Running circles around the big dogs...

Well, you have Office Depot and Staples. Not aware of any other places in our area. We quit buying our office supplies at Office Depot when they started contributing to a fund to help children who were being bullied over their sexual identity issues. Staples also seems to have lower prices and delivery is free. I think Wally World carries some basic supplies but can’t find anyone willing to go with me as a bodyguard which seems to be warranted from the looks of the people in the parking lot.

Didn’t know that. But we don’t shop at Target - not only because of the bathroom issue, but because of their promotion of rainbow wearing apparel as well as credit card scam problems. One of the reasons we moved to Staples was because we have always had free delivery. Saves a whole lot of hassles, particularly when we have to order a couple of cases of paper.

Tried a couple of different reduced toner places we found on-line and liked their price but their quality was really bad. Staples also had a great sale recently on Folger’s coffee, paper towels and toilet tissue. Bought a couple cases of each, restocked my house, saved a lot of $ and I didn’t have to schlep it anywhere.

Good. I am sick of consolidation. Obama is destroying this nation’s competitive environment.

Hell - let the merge. They already gauge customers 3 ways to Heaven on items they can get away with. They wanted $27 for a 10x12 wall calendar with the coil binding so you can flip the pages....

^^^^^ This We have anti-trust and anti-monopoly statutes in this country. You wouldn’t know it the way the big globalist mergers have gone on since Clinton. At least one judge gets it.

Happening in airline industry and in cable tv industry....bad for the consumer.

Government ought to encourage CAPITALISM, competition—not consolidation.

These mega mergers really took off under Clinton. Bank de-regulation especially, that led to 2008. Reagan recognized this as a bad thing, but Wall street saw too much money in it. Can you say Exxon Mobil?
