New email release shows Clinton chose not to use secure phone line, acknowledged Blackberry risk

A new set of State Department documents released Thursday by the watchdog group Judicial Watch reveal then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made the choice not to use a secure phone line amid a technical problem and acknowledged the risk of using a private Blackberry phone.

The documents contain a Feb. 22, 2009, email exchange between Clinton and her then-Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills attempting to communicate over a secure line after Clinton returned from an overseas trip.

When there were issues setting up a secure communication, Clinton wrote to Mills, “I called ops and they gave me your ‘secure’ cells… but only got a high-pitched whining sound.”

Mills then suggested that Clinton try the secure line again, but the former secretary wrote back, “I give up. Call me on my home #.”

In a separate email from Feb. 27, 2008 released Wednesday, Clinton apologized to health care activist/physician Mark Hyman for failing to respond to a message because, “no blackberry contact permitted in my office.”

Fox News reports that the email exchange between Hillary Clinton and Cheryl Mills is reminiscent of another email exchange between her and then-State Department deputy chief of staff Jake Sullivan, where she directed Sullivan “to strip the classification markings of sensitive talking points and send through non-secure fax.”

“They say they’ve had issues sending secure fax. They’re working on it,” Sullivan wrote to Clinton in 2011.

“If they can’t, turn into nonpaper w no identifying heading and send nonsecure,” Clinton wrote back.

The clintons have been guilty of so many things for so many years. Treating them like royalty and allowing them to destroy anyone who gets in their way, makes this country less than it is... banana republic comes to mind.. where the leadership can do anything and the citizens are punished for far less.

Back when I did that sort of thing, I used a STU-III, and it was inconvenient, it was less clear than an open line, and it was slower. I never would have considered using an open line for classified discussions. Even though I assume today’s version is much better, Hillary obviously didn’t care how many people died from her actions. What mattered was her comfort and her advancement. I wonder how many deaths directly resulted from Hillary’s lack of interest in security. Liberals like her (and her supporters) disgust me.

She had the secure server connected to the fax machine.

They are such morons.

What she ordered Mills to do was to scan a paper copy of a very classified document and then to edit the electronic version removing the headings. The highest likelihood all this was done on an unclassified computer system.

In the military, DoD or even in industrial security under NISPOM this is an egregious deliberate violation. The kind for which you get 10 years in prison and a substantial fine.

Why? 2009 was just as she was coming into office as secretary of state

Clinto knew what she was doing. She was proactively hiding public records from the public.

I used STU-IIIs for much of my career, and the technology steadily improved. In the early days of the system (late 80s), the units were large and it sometimes took two or three attempts to get the phones synchronized, encrypted and secure. On other occasions, there would be distortion on the line, suggesting the synch wasn’t quite right, so you’d hang up and try again.

But the technology improved steadily and the STUs in service when I left the spook world (2008) were vastly improved. Just place the call, push the button to “go secure,” then watch the display to confirm that the connection had been established and the classification level the network could support.

It would take a fair degree of technical incompetence/stupidity to be unable to operate a STU-III. But then again, Hillary is anything but tech-savvy, as evidenced by her inability to operate a fax machine and how long have they been around? Not exactly cutting-edge technology.

Then again, sending faxes, setting up secure calls and similar chores are tasks for the little people. Why should anyone expect Queen HRC to know how to operate a STU-III or secure Blackberry?

I left several years before you did (and went to mostly political polling, rather than other uses of math), and the STU was awkward back then. If Hillary was unwilling to switch from a Blackberry to an authorized but high-performing phone, that tells us something about just how indifferent she was to the safety of the SEALs, CIA staff, and others who died on her watch.

Once all this comes out in the open, the Clintons will replace Nixon as the bete noir of politics. The corruption is just rampant.

The corruption is rampant because they have never been punished for it. Why don’t they start putting some underlings in jail? Why does no one go to jail for this stuff anymore. Lois Lerner?
