With fewer dogs and cats, they will soon have more mice and rats. That can make for lots of protein too.
The Tragedy of the Siege of Leningrad was what happened when it was over.
Stalin always hated Leningrad, he always thought the folks there were disloyal to him, and he had many of the heroes of Leningrad killed.

This is a fabulous idea; perhaps many of them would be eaten.
Back in the Bad Old Days, when the evil, imperialist US dominated South America, this would NEVER have happened. Long before things came to this, there would be a series of unfortunate accidents...unexpected deaths...strange disappearances...and then a coup...and then US companies would set up shop, and things would be pretty good.

Be forewarned, The Chekist is probably the most depressing movie you’ll ever see, maybe with the exception of “Come and See (Idi i Smotri).”
Wire snares will work for subsistence gathering for the stew-pot, if ammo is out. The Cubans might be well fed and of good health—their worries might begin if possibly someone is familiar with Dr. Lector’s recipe collection?

I doubt they want to cover -this- part of the story. And we thought barcodes were innocent little things not tied to a debit or credit card in any way.

I had not thought of that in those terms. I guess I had been buying into the myth at some level.

I say vote for Trump so we won’t have to take that chance.
With a climate like theirs, they ought to be able to grow stuff all year long.
There shouldn’t be that kind of food shortages if people were growing their own.
The ides is to prepare ahead of time.
I’ll just pressure can a bunch of meat while we still have it.
The book, One Second After, deals with an EMP and the breakdown of society after all electronics fail. While it is fiction the scenario he portrays about food shortages and people starving actually appears all too feasible.
Maybe they weren’t allowed to grow things or not allowed to own or rent land to grow things.
Under a socialist/communist regime, I can imagine that’s the case.
Or perhaps they just got into what kartographer would call a normalcy bias. They got used to depending on government handouts and thought it would always continue that way.
And now they don’t know what to do. Crops take time to grow and you can starve to death waiting for the crop to come in.
Eagerly awaiting the Venezuelan thugs-in-power “Ceacescu Protocol” Moment.
