Yeah, and then they kept favored people, but that didn't last either.

The Tragedy of the Siege of Leningrad was what happened when it was over.

Stalin always hated Leningrad, he always thought the folks there were disloyal to him, and he had many of the heroes of Leningrad killed.

One of the things I remember the most in the book was the people peeling the wallpaper off so that they could lick the paste for food.

A dreadful time.
