Republican congressional candidate Scott Jones pledge to support his partys likely presidential nominee Donald Trump has cost him the endorsement of a key labor ally.
On Saturday, a spokesman for the Teamsters Joint Council 7 confirmed the group has withdrawn its endorsement of Jones, who is challenging Democratic Rep. Ami Bera in suburban Sacramento Countys 7th Congressional District. Scott Jones
Rome Aloise, president of Teamsters Joint Council 7, last week sent a letter to Jones stating his group was extremely disappointed with Jones decision to vote for Trump, whom Aloise said has taken diametrically opposite positions to Jones on collective bargaining issues and the need for comprehensive immigration overhaul. Trump continues to divide Republicans on the fall ballot as well as many party elders.
Understandably, many members of the Republican Party do not like the prospects of either of the Democrat candidates in the race becoming president, wrote Aloise, himself a registered Democrat. Yet many Republicans are withholding their support for Trump because of his divisiveness and his scapegoating of immigrants, women, and workers. We cannot stand with anybody who condones such behavior.

And, since the Teamsters already know their rank and file are voting Jones and Trump, they figured they'd condemn Trump/Jones in the hope their leadership could preserve their position in the Communist Hierarchy.
Trump is “scapegoating workers”? Workers in China?
That's some of the most recent progressive code for illegals. Same as families.
Trump does not want the support of the teamster chiefs/thugs.
The rank and file/due paying union members will vote for Trump.
This like when Chiefs of Police support Clintoon, the rank and file cops will vote for Trump.
I know. Unions use the words “workers and families” and people take them literally, but the unions only consider it to mean union workers and families.
>>Unions use the words workers and families and people take them literally, but the unions only consider it to mean union workers and families.
Not anymore. Now they mean “illegal workers and families”. They even kick the dues-paying members to the curb to pursue the Progressive Agenda.
Union leadership is modeled after the playbook of suck-up grifterism and pay-to-play. California politics is controlled by unions as much or more than any rustbelt state. I occasionally drank coffee with Richard Reardon, mayor of Los Angeles 1993-2000 where I used to live. I asked him if CA politics was all about unions and he answered “absolutely” with zero hesitation. Any headline you read about unions is a position taken by union leadership and has nothing whatsoever to do with the way membership votes or will vote. I have no idea how union membership will vote but I strongly suspect it will not be the lock-step kind of thing we have seen in the past. Union voting may indeed cancel itself out Dem vs Rep with such a projected shift towards the GOP.
In any event, demographically, CA is completely doomed from the standpoint of welfare redistributionism for all but the top Silicon Valley & Hollywood moguls. It will be generations before we see anything but a 1:10 ratio of Republicans to Democrats elected to political office in CA and the state if clearly going after the Venezuela model in the interim. Goofball Jerry Brown will probably die in office with his prized bullet train generating a $2+ billion annual deficit until its abandoned.
I was in a rather intense political discussion with a couple of inlaws last night. Both Dems, both union guys. (I -did- say inlaws) Anyway, the conversation was not an argument, more like heated venting, mostly by them. They HATE their union leadership. They hate the slovenliness of training young members, the favor and job hoarding, and the general decline of American standards of work ethic and work quality. They hate the pervasive foreign outsourcing. They are inclined, reluctantly, to vote for Hillary. But they like Trump. They are paying attention to what he has been saying. They like the way he is tearing the GOPe like rotten cloth. They too, like most here, recognize that the common enemy of Americans and the American way of life is the UNIPARTY. They recognize Hillary is Uniparty, and for sale.
Trump will get some of these guys. He needs to court them. Not patronize them, but ask the hard questions about what the Democrats have done to make this country better, more prosperous, and something they are pleased to leave for their children and grand children.
It is time to bury the oligarchs and the nomenklatura.
Yes, yes and yes!
Yup. They pursue policies to raise up the wages of unskilled laborers making little money as if it’ll help higher paid skilled workers. They think teens making $15 an hour flipping burgers are the future of unionization.
You can bet many members represented by Teamsters Joint Council 7 will not agree with this move. There is significant support from Trump among the rank and file union membership.
The interests of its members had the Teamsters Joint Council 7 endorsing a Republican. Politics, however, trumped the interests of the members by Teamsters Joint Council 7 decision to rescind its endorsement of Trump.
Working families is the reference to those represented by unions.
Right--because of Trump's divisiveness, or because the left *always* projects these qualities on strong conservatives?
If you pay attention to the candidate, you soon become aware that the MSM has completely mischaracterized him--true not just of Trump, but of any conservative candidate. The purpose of such mischaracterization is not to inform people about the candidate, but to create such a negative impression about the candidate that people are unable to see the candidate without interpreting everything through that media-created negative filter.
One of the reasons I like Trump is that his long public life before entering politics has, to an extent, insulated him from the normal character assassination. It's hard to convincingly misrepresent someone's character when people already know him. Sadly, some conservatives have still fallen for it--I hope it is not enough to make a difference when it comes time to vote. I do not think the country will survive another four years of extreme leftist rule. It's in a bad shape after the eight years it has already suffered.
If that's so, as I suspect too, WHY are the union leaders not dumped out on their featherbedded asses?
That’s what I said. They put ads out talking about working families on TV and unsuspecting low info non union voters think they are talking about them. They’re not.
The Rank and File will vote for Trump
At worst, they split 50-50.
And Trump likely wins them as did Reagan.
Only the public sector unions will be able to hold their members.
“The rank and file/due paying union members will vote for Trump.”
Yep, just like what happened in 1980.

Your comments above.are in line with observations from some of our younger relatives, who manage skilled union members
These younger relatives live in the midwest, southwest and on the left coast.
While the Teamsters members have a reputation of being more rock solid behind their goon bosses (nothin' to do with the Mafia runnin' the union for decades, I'm sure), this is going to bite them in the ass. The jilted candidate needs to point out that being NeverTrump is more important to whomever *really* runs the union than supporting someone who best supports the interests of the rank and file.
