“Maduro and Chavez are able to claim the U.S. is trying to oust them because of the 1954 Guatemalan coup, the invasion of Panama, and whatever happened in Haiti in 2004 (thanks Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine and more involvement in foreign conflicts we shouldn’t be involved in).”

And how would any change in U.S. policy change the above? It would not. The above would always be cited. The left is adept at demonizing the U.S.A., no matter what. Nothing done in the U.S. will stop leftists from claiming the U.S. is about to invade, in order to prop up their regimes. The left is better at creating scapegoats and excuses for their failed policies than any other politicians on the planet.

The best thing to do is stay as far away from this train wreck as possible. It’s just a shame that the US doesn’t currently have a free market advocating leader to point out, explicitly and loudly, what’s going on there and why it’s such a good lesson for everyone else.

And to add: a change of power there, even one that installs a free-market oriented leadership, is going to take enormously long to work. I can’t imagine that either internal entrepreneurs (assuming there are some left) or external companies and investors are going to be rushing back in once the doors open up again.
